  • Interior shot - crit/feedback required

    Hi there,

Something I'm currently working on. I've got to a stage where I feel it's almost there but would really appreciate any comments/crits to try and improve the image.

It is noisy at the moment because it's not the final render.

DOF isn't 100% accurate either because of looking through glass and done in post but this will be done using vray DOF for final image.

it looks good to me but the chromatic aberration is too strong in my opinion and the glossiness on the floor is too even(it looks like vinyl floor) , I think if you use a map or/and bump map would be much better.
I think if you have a gap between the column and the floor will help you to read the shape of the column....I only can tell you if a round one because of the shape where it intersects the ceiling and maybe adding a dirt material to the concrete, specially on the bottom would be great.

Cheers, yes...I agree the CA is probably too strong..the previous version was not enough so I guess the next version will be about right. I'll play around with the reflection maps and bump for the concrete..it is supposed to be a polished concrete floor but I wanted more detail than just a standard concrete hence the reason I chose the slotted concrete type or whatever it is called. To be honest I felt the column could do with something as well but I'm not even sure what the construction is and if there would actually be a gap...I may get away with it..I'll possibly just add some noise though helping define the bottom more. I'm using rich dirt plugin which is pretty cool. I may enhance the dirt effect more.

        Hi Steve,

I think your work is great but I would do the following to bring this image up a level.

        1. Refocus on distant trees a bit more- they are too blurred.
        2. Add layered fog (quite strong) to cover grass in BG (early morning mist fog see attached ref)
        3. Add condensation to glass (see attached ref)
        4. Increase Flare from Sun, and make pink/red/yellow

I believe these changes will add atmosphere and narrative - that of a breaking dawn.

        cheers,

Difficult to crit the image without having my comments refer to the design of the space, but I guess that's your client's design. I like the curtains - they work really well. Not very keen on the lamp (too obvious) or the table (awkward orientation) and the rug is very dark. Bonsai trees are a bit naff aren't they? I like where you are going with the CA, but as is often the case with these sorts of camera effects, too strong at the moment. Its always a tough balance - we like adding these 'aberrations', but they should be done so that they don't drive the image. You should not really be able to see/notice them within the image. Also - have a look at your glass material on the coffee table - it looks a bit odd.
          Kind Regards,

good point, and to me it looks a bit weird with the base made of concrete..

I think the original lamp has a concrete base. I do however agree about the position.

This is a very open project so any comments regarding positioning would be useful. Camera angle cannot change but everything else can. I quite like Bonsai trees but maybe it's not working in this image. I was keeping the table square with the rug. Maybe a slight bit of rotation. The glass is a basic vray mat with 1.6 ior in the refraction. I think the issue with the odd look may be smoothing groups. I'll see what I can do.

I know it's not that important, and it's just a detail in the whole image, but I think it may work much better as it actually is, in polished marble.
originally it was designed and produced with a white carrara marble base, as for other Castiglioni lamps it kind of made it into a sculpture. now I think it comes in black marble as well.

I'll change that to white marble....it would be a nice contrast to the concrete.

yes, I think it will work better with the rough surface of the floor.
