-3/0 is for 640*480 to 800*600! If you double the resolution, you can lower the min/max both by 1. So -5/-2 on 3600width will give you same result as -3/0 on 800*600 and I think that should be enough.

You artifacts are 100% sure from that self illuminated mat. I would just give it the same mat, but apply a vraymtlwrapper and uncheck send and recieve GI. It seems that you don't mind that these boxes don't illuminate the room, so they'e just there for the look, and then they shouldn't add up to your GI calculation.

and if they are adding to the lighting you can just put a vray light in that area to create the light

-After 49 hours this is the result (original size 3200 x 1600 pixels), better without discussion, but... productive?

-Rended in a Dell Precission Dual Xeon HT 2.66, 2 Gbytes ECC RAM, WXP pro

-The reflection areas are as I waited for them

Floor mat: Reflect: Glosiness 0,75 Subdiv: 100

        -Result & settings

Yes maxxer. If I put it lower than 100 too much artifacts appears

with interpolation your rendering is much faster and i think u don't need 100
                  with it.try subd40-50!

maxer I understood you well with the interpolation, but if I put it active I lose depth in the degraded of the reflection, in some areas/objects even totally

anyway I will make a test with your suggestion

                    Danke für dein tip

yeah i agree with ReNdEr3D... i never use interpolation the quality is just not the same.
so what was the problem with the artifacts in the end ?

I believe, good now I am for sure they were so much the values so too low for max/min like just attach it the bright material to just the lower face , I applied the solution that you gave me Natty.

I still think -3,-1 at that rsolution is way too high. You don't even have small objects in your scene that should cast detailed GI shadows, so I really think you could get away with much much less.

100 subdivs is also way too high. No floor like that would look this polished, it would for sure have some bump, causing irregular reflections (read grainy). I would use max20 for subdivs, it will still look nice and it will look like there is some bump on the floor without even applying a bump map

Look at the hairdryer thread, someone used glossy reflections there and people thought it was bump!

Also, how did you test the right amount of glossy subdivs? With AA turned off? Usually if you use AA 0,2 and 10 to 15 for subdivs, you should have very smooth results. The AA smooths out the glossies A LOT, just try it.

                          flipside

your right 100 subds is way way to high ... i wouldnt dream of a mat that high... killer render times

My God 49 hours for the render???...Way too high...Min Samples -5 max Samples -2 Is enough for a resolution that high...
100 subdivisions for glossiness it's overkilling...I myself usually set it at 3.....10 for refractive gloss...
