  • beakers and chocolate (WIP) and dof test

    Hi,

beakers need some coffee in it, more details to be added.

    C&C welcome

    Gijs

EDIT: Thanks LJaffe, replaced the first image. But the mesh is not clean, which is becoming very obvious now.

Add details to GI, too. Your settings are too low so things float.

    Regards!

            Thanks guys for the comments

The DOF is indeed very heavy here. This was mainly done because I wanted to see what settings were needed to get a smooth result without too much grain. I still think though that the front of the beaker nearest to the camera looks a bit 'dirty' instead of purely out of focus.
            I used 30 subdivisions, rendertime was about 36 minutes with DOF (@1280 x 960)

              is it for an animation?

vrays DOF is great but i prefer doing DOF in photoshop.
it´s a matter of seconds and you see not much differences (in most cases).

No, not intended for animation. For me it is just a way to get familiar with Vray's possibilities. I think DOF in Photoshop works quite well but not if you have objects in front of each other (like in this case).

gijs dof in photoshop works very well.
i would not recommend doing it in photoshop if what you say is correct.

the only thing that does not work well are transparent objects, because the z-depth image can only represent the front face of a transparent object.

you can use the new filter in PS 8 or plugins like simulated dof or better (imho) frischluft lenscare.

have a look at lenscare and be suprised:

Can you post your chocolate material settings....very nice

actually you know what could look really cool.....if you had a napkin wrapped around the cups.

Actualy I am still working on the chocolate material, because I did not like it that much This one was done with Vray material and glossy reflections. Now I am trying to use a standard material with mixed highlight. I'll post an update soon.
