Hey yall, haven't posted any work in quite awhile, have been busy moving to kansas city, and am newly married and all that, but finally sat down and created this.

I wouldn't call it finished as it has some issues, namely the lack of detail showing up on the cabinetry moulding. Also looking for any crits or suggestions about any of it. Its not for any client, just my personal portfolio.

Original render at 1000x666 can be found here:

Heres my render settings. I set them fairly high for the resolution because I wanted to be sure the details of the cabinets came through

AA was set to Catmull btw.

    Hi,

I like it, looks very nice, the mood is very friendly.

If you want detail, try lowerinterp. samples. Because now you calculate a detailed map with the -3,0 setting and 60hsph, but you blur it out with the high interp samples value.

        hi percy,

i like the overall look of your image, especially the part with the stools.

I think it would be better if you add some texture/detail to the flat walls, it looks kind of raw.

Also in terms of design you have to add a skirting like piece(forgive my poor english) where the counter meets the wall.

ah one more thing, i think there should be some light coming in from the window but it does not look that way.

got to tune down my verbose level i guess

          Hi percy

I wish you a long long beautifull life with your wife...

I second stellar with the light that doesn't come from the visible window.

The kitchen model seems to come from max 6 tutorial, isn't it ??
If then, angular corners are a bit to hard to be realistic.
And maybe you should work on it. Models are too much cubic.

You should work on reflexion parameter too of your materials (wood,
fridge) add more reflexion with more glossy with something to
reflect, maybe. It's a suggestion, you have to test of course.

Try another light position, starting by the window.and add where it is
          needed.
I think the light plays a lot in your scene.Start to work with it first.

Don't you use Photon mapping ?

          Bye

              Thanks for the replies.

stellar: your right about the light from the window. I forgot to remove the window before calculating the irrad map. Will do that. Your right about the skirt as well. I modeled the kitchen based upon a photograph I found in a architecture magazine, and after looking at the photo again, I see there is indeed molding where the counter meets the wall. The photograph had entire white cabinets and walls, which i thought looked great in the photo, but horrible in my rendering so I added the wood for the cabinets, will look at creating something more for the walls.

gafl: thanks! I hope to have a long life also I dont recognize any model from a max 6 tut. I assure I modeled everything you see there. well except for the cabinets, they are aec objects. On the reflections, the cabinet material has reflections, but might have made it too blurry. will try and tone it down. The sunlight is coming in from a skylight in the ceiling, I think it will look better when I rerender without the glass window. I tried photon mapping, but it seemed to take ALOT longer to create the irrad map, and at 1000x666 it already takes about 3 hrs to create. Am working on that as we speak.

              Palee: And thank you too!

heres a screenshot of the wireframe:

Im working on a couple of other things as well, including adding a photometric light to replace the recessed light at the window and redoing the messed up towel hanging from the island.

                Hi percy !

In fact, the kitchen I have already seen was a model given by Discreet
in max4 and 5...It is almost the same and over all, very angular.
                I must go to work

                Bye

                          Hi percydaman,

Artistic ! and very lovely !

It has that -toy- feeling, maybe because everything is so nicely tidy and clean !

                          Very nice 3D Art.
