  • house in the woods

Here, is one I put together for something I am working on. Don't get to excited, I just dropped my model in a pre-made Evermotion scene. I did like how the house turned out with the direct light they used, so I learned something.

It looks good!!!...Having shadows from trees over the house always look more realistic!!...the house looks brand new and the access looks like a farm house or a cabin.
    show me the money!!

I was actually playing with the architect. I asked for a site plan, showing the driveway, and he said sarcastic. "until they poor it, it's going to be dirt". So, dirt he got!

Looks great. There's lots of gradients of shading on it whether it's the light or the spec / reflections on your walls I don't know but it's something that's missing in a lot of your quicker renders.

            Can you elaborate?

Love the lighting in this! The dark vs light is nice and strong - makes for an interesting image. I think this is what joconnell is referring to. I know you've mentioned before that clients hate how color looks different under different lighting so some of your earlier pieces look flatter than this? That's what I'm thinking.

Also that environment just looks great for that home, the dirt path & everything

              nice work!

I am putting together a class for this years MINN-U, so I am building the class around this image. I am going to talk more about the art of architectural illustrations, and less about the technical side. This image was build using rules, and following basic rules can help create an interesting image. My point is going to be; you can sink a lot of money into hardware and software, but these are just tools for the artist.

Anyway, I am glad you like it.

What I think joconnell meant (and correct me if i'm wrong here) was that your shadow areas aren't at a uniform level - it goes from receiving a lot of bounced secondary light to dark shadows in a very natural way. Same with the sunlight - it has wide variations in the brightness. Your other images tend to have more of a 'this is in shadow/this is sunlit' thing going on.

I agree with him (assuming that was it) - it makes a huge difference to how natural and realistic renders look.

I used the Sunlight filter from Color Effect Pro, but that's nothing new. I also added some grain, but then again, nothing new. The only new workflow is using direct lights, when typically I use the V-Ray Sun, with an HDRI.

It's probably because you have the sunlight casting through the trees.

The image is coming along nicely. I still think there is some work to do on the roof tiles though. They look a bit too uniform and CGI at the moment. The setting and composition is nice though

Yep you're spot on here cubicle. Bobby, with some of your other renders each wall of the house has a totally uniform look to it so it can be a bit flat. With this image even though the wall is flat, there are changes in the lighting over the surface which make it a lot more interesting and realistic to look at.

I was going to say, really nice environment.

                              The house also looks sweet.
