  • ikea LAMPAN table light --> 'nightshot' added

Upper image you see the photo from the ikea website, lower image my rendering. Nice thing is that the material of the cap makes the 'lines' appear darker just like the real thing. The cap has 38 facets on the outside, while the inner side is round. Therefore the material thickness is not constant.
I am amazed that this can be mimicked so well with Vray material.

Wow! That's a nice render. If I had to be really picky I could say that the glass needs to be slightly less transparent, but I don't want to be picky. :P

        Well done!

This truly is one of the greatest times to be alive.

I agree with twinxel, I bet a lot of us might have assumed the top image was the render!

                Stunning

                  Agentdark45:

the table is simply a planar map. Reflection has falloff in both reflection and glossy. I can't give more information right now, because the monitor of my working computer just went dead
lighting: inside the light there is a vray light with the same radius as the actual light.
The environment and reflection slot have the famous kitchen probe.

Wow, Really amazing And the wood is superb too

                      Two things I notice though...

The IOR appears to be wrong. If you look at the photo you can see the shade reflected in the base. And the plastic could probably be a little blurry.

The reflection of the electric cord seems too clear in the wood.

                          J_Bug:

the reflection of the cord: I expected it a bit more blurry too, I'll check if I can correct that.

reflection in the base: it is actually there, but it is almost totally overruled by the environment light (I used HSV colormapping) Maybe I have to tone down the HDRI light a bit.

                          Thanks

Here is a 'nightshot' (turned down the HDRI multiplier from 1 to 0.2)

The top of the lamp is a bit too dark, I think this is because there should be a fillet on the edge to make the material a bit thinner. The real top is darker then the photo shows btw. What do you think?
