  • Architectural Details

I have some time, and a pretty nice project, so I am going to experiment with close ups. I am not going to do any over all images, until the very last, just to see how the flow goes. Hopefully, making changes along the way to specific details, will make the over all much more detailed.

The detail is good, the material is too reflective in my opinion.
    show me the money!!

      I agree with Flino.

I would also check your smoothing groups on the brackets under the planter. Some weird shading going on down there.

The planter looks much better now!

But if you want to improve it even further then I'd say work a little bit on the wall texture. Also, the pebbles/small stones at the bottom where it meets the wall seems to go "through" the wall and not lie nicely against it.

But that's just me being fussy from a 3D guy point of view. It looks very good as is and I'm sure any client will be happy with it.
            Kind Regards,
            Morne

Again, I'm sure any client will be happy with it. The quality of your work has skyrocketed over the past few months.

If I really have to be fussy, then I'd say the timber/wood frames in the foreground needs some bump and/or some kind of varnish. Something seems off with the dof with the stuff on the right and the sky. Almost as if you manually cut out the sky and replaced it...

The map is pretty low res.

To get that varnish look, drop your main material into a blend & do a fully reflective (/.975 glossy) coat with a slight noise bump. drop a fresnel falloff in the mix and lower it's input to around 30 over black.

The detailing looks great - good way to build up some serious high end assets!

Your wood looks a little plastic - any varnish & reflective coating should be done in a blend material so it doesnt interact with the bump map.

Can you post an example of what you are describing for the wood. Sounds interesting.

The reflective coat is a black material with refclection set to 255,255,255 and the glossiness on .975. the noise bump is very subtle & quite large.
The falloff used to mix between them is simply a fresnel - might want to note that i've got it over black and not set to 100. The wood has very soft glossy reflections to pick up it's own subtle highlights and the details of the bump underneath the varnish coating.

Couple of notes, if you are aiming for total realism. This is strictly IMO The forms in the image are really too perfect, in real world nothing is this straight. The wood on the doors etc, everything is really clean. See this image I've got:
                              http://www.flickr.com/photos/light2m...13912/sizes/l/

Look at the glass panels, though highly reflective, they are not perfect, the glass tends to warp a lot, when in side the frame, it creates irregular reflection/refraction. The line that meets the pebble on the floor with the wall is also very straight for me. At this distance, I would use scatter to actually place real geometric pebble which would give you much more natural look, then displacement.

                              Cheers!
