I think the forum must have need a recovery from backup, so I will start the thread again.

The project is basically a study and learning exercise with the topic of creating something very familiar which is my own room.

    Some of the latest images

Since that I have improved the sculpting and texture scale of the sheeting but also noticed something important to the look and apparent weight/thickness to a sheet. That is the crumples from washing.
I used gimp to draw a bump map which will simulate that effect. After some tweaking and balancing I think the result is pleasing.

You can see some obvious tiling in some of the texture but that is actually the diffuse map which is repeated too frequently in order to scale the threads, but this doesn't really hurt overall.
The bottom right corner of the image shows the effect of the crumples the best.

I also changed the colour mapping from linear to reinhard with 0.6 burn, using linear was just cooking the highlight on the drawers too much. (plus also some slight process in blender compositor on this one)

    Hello!

I read your post before backup. Your tips were very helpfully! I have one question. On what scale you are working? My 1 blender unit = 1dm. And another question, is scale so important for render settings, or another staff?
    Thanks For your post.

I think that in general 1 blender unit is 1 meter (10dm I'm assuming). Scale will be important for light power, camera dof (if used) and many other settings within render settings and textures which use world units.

          Re: Bedroom

I understand, that you are using only this proportion: 1 blender unit = 1m. I always used scale 1bu=1dm, so I change this and make some tests. So continue your post. That`ll really good visual.

            Re: Bedroom

Pillows are successful and some adjustments were made to the crumple map.
The bed is now around 1million faces, mostly in the pillows. Next up the quilt which may be complex as the material is like a fine corduroy but some bump maps may cover it.

                Re: Bedroom

I used a cloth sim + shape keys+ solidify modifier + mesh deform modifier to deform the real quilt mesh to the shape. Further sculpting was then used, giving finer deformations and bulk from the padding inside.
End dark pattern was texture photographed.

This fabric pattern is very fine and must use texture filtering to avoid ugly moire patterns appearing. Detail gets lost but is still there if a close up is required and will slightly contribute to the overall shading when viewed from a distance anyway.
The texture appearance is mostly from the diffuse but a bump map is used lightly as well.

                  Re: Bedroom

The sun really does come in like this in the afternoon . Lots of contrast, had to tone-map it in picturenaut to get something with reasonable colours/toning.
There is not sunsky, sun is used but with custom background colour.
Sunsky generally goes apocalyptic when you have sun at an angle like this, I want the purplish-blue tones coming instead of a dooms-day sky which is why I try using a background colour instead.

                    Hey,

I still watch this Wip with interest. I'm just waiting for the slippers now .

Tell me Rhys, what is your tree solution ? Background image or real mesh ?

                      Re: Bedroom

                      Hi Duv,
Currently I'm using 3d trees from evermotion. I need to place many more and I think these current trees will not be suitable in the end. The big tree on the left is actually an olive tree scaled very large, oh.
I'm looking at getting xfrog Oceana/Australia collections which particularly has gum trees.
I think for the distance of these trees with lighting more extreme like this, 3d is more ideal.
In the end I will probably also use a distant background image behind the trees, something like mountains/water if I can find one in the right scale/elevation. (does anyone know a good place to get these sort of backplates?)

Hehe I don't usually have slippers out but your very correct about some more objects being required, particularly on the floor.
Slippers would look good though, I'll look into that, as well as the oil heater I have neglected.

The bottom right area is very empty, not sure what clutter to put there. The heater goes under the window area and slippers would go nearer to the top of the bed.
It's a big space but no furniture goes there.

                        Re: Bedroom

I started this one a couple of months ago, and I never ended to fill it.

I don't wip because I'm sure not working on it before a while.
I spent the last few weeks trying the sapling tree addon, rigging characters and make interactive animation in action script3...
I have also my bathroom view to finish... so much to do.

But as I can guess by looking at your work, I imagine you spend most of your time trying to increase your skills.

A thing that I really appreciate, is in the fact that you stay focus on your task.
Personally, I'm forced to test several things at the same time not to saturate.

Edit : http://www.morguefile.com for the background images.

This project particularly is for finding efficient ways to do a number of things I require for my work, usually I do the same and switch to other projects without really finishing. Actually I am doing another project at the same time but the topic is different.
