  • I need help.....exterior(Updated 1/5/2004)

This would be the worse rendering youve seen. im using a direct light and using vray as the renderer....is the a setting i can change to make it more realistic. Any help would be great....

    hi reza!

    it´s not bad at all.

just work on the sky and the grass and the glas.

Do you want that dramatic perspective?

there are tools around to avoid this kind of "falling lines"

Your contrast is too low, put your Ambient lightning to 0 and reduce your sky illumination. If the resulting image is too dark, boost your direct light and/or use (HSV) exponential color mapping.

Try to use a textre that tiles better.

To correct the vertical perspective effect, apply a Wave modifier to your camera.

      nice model !

        couple of comments
        > try changing the sky to light blue
        > change the safe frame i.e make the image vertical [get rid of the barren foreground]
        > remove the foreground trees[they r covering ur entrance ]...have shrubery instead
        > try getting in more contrast in ur light settings

this might help as ref for the sky and backdrop

            much better !

but the color of the sky and the grass doesn't go well with each other.

Tray lower the saturation of the grass and/or make the sky a little bit lighter

Make sure you use a HDR image as an environment map under the Vray settings. It produces really nice sutble ambient lighting. Add specific shadows from the sun with a direct light, and ambient light from the sky with the HDR. Wonderful for exteriors.

Your materials are tiling very much.. It looks from this low res as if it is a Brick material.. (tiles in max6) if so, you should turn up the number of divisions in the material, and make your uvwmap larger to match.. this will spread out the tiling effect a bit more by having larger pieces of the material be randomized.

your glass doesn't appear to be reflecting anything.. i'm assuming you are rendering it out and compositing the sky in, One thing that would help is to put a skydome in the scene and mabye render out a simple reflection pass.. that you can add as a screen layer in photoshop and turn down the opacity of that layer to suit your tastes..

lastly.. is the dump truck appropriate to the hotel image? seems a little bit of an odd choice in my opinion but i can't read the signs.. hehe

                    couple thoughts.

dbuchhofer I want to ask you how we render the reflection pass seperately. where is this setting for vray?

one way is to make your Envieronment color white, and set everything in the scene to be Matte object with the vray properties dialog.. Objects with reflections you have set to a 1.0 alpha contribution, objects that don't have reflections set to a -1.0..

then you work with blending modes and opacity %'ages to make it match and fit into the scene as either a screen, overlay, or multiply layer type (Depends on the origional color underlay)..

One way to do it.. (By no means saying its the best way either). It gives you a bit more setup time, but imho the editability of the composite afterwards makes it worth it..

I think that sky isnt matching the lighting in any of those pictures. And because its a skyscraper and a lot of sky shows, the clouds and all make the building seem like its floating or something. Try with a simple blue gradient as background and more drastic sunlight - stronger shadows and stuf..

I must be the one to notice that you work awful lot, every day you're posting images, and they are all great. Keep up the food work!
