  • more help needed, thanks. - natty?

natty - I uploaded the image to my website and have typed in where it is. Why does it not show up like when you modified my image path? It just shows the link in the preview?

Also I need some advice on the lighting. I like the lighting for the most part but need it to be a little bit brighter overall but if I increase the multiplier for my lights the hot spots just get brighter. I'm using about 10 Vray light spheres. Is there a setting I can adjust to get more bounces and better ambient light. Or should I just add more lights and turn down the multiplier. I think I have my first bounce set to 1.0 and second set to 0.7 currently. min rate -4, max. 2, with my HSph sub at 60, samples at 60. From what I understand these are the important settings? Are there others I should be aware of as well? Thanks again to all. I really appreciate it.

    Regards Pete

    ok those are important.....
what is your G-buffer settings.....i usually use HSV exponential or exponential for the interiors.....cuts down on the hot spots

i think what you are getting wrong here are your lights, your trying to use vray sphere lights like omni's.. the idea is to have lights where they would really be and let the light bounce to illuminate the rest of your scene.
          in other words Indirect illumination.

            Aaaah! I get it. thanks

Yes you are correct. I am fairly conversant with GI, in theory mostly. I guess what I should be doing is solving my glazing issues and setting up a direct light outside to simulate sun, and then add the actual interior lighting.

I wanted to just have some fill lights and have a nice ambient feel to the room as the design isn't complete yet, let alone the lighting plan.

Do you have any tips for glass material. I would normally use a standard material with a raytraced map in the reflection slot and adjust the opacity in the material editor. How do you adjust opacity and reflectivity with a Vray material?

            Thanks a lot Natty!

            Regards Peter.

use a vray mat .... reflection turn to grey .... refraction turn to white turn on frensel and tick effect shadows ...and thats it

Thanks Natty - Here is the result of changing the glazing material and putting in a Vray light outside to simulate the sun. I cranked the bounces way up. That may be why I'm getting a grainy image and the facets? What do you think? Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it.

                Regards Peter.

Thanks natty that would be great. I will have to look at better carpet and I would like to have a bit more reflection and opacity in the glass. I guess that is just a matter of darkening the shade of gray. Should I just post a link to a zip file on my website?

                    Thanks again.

                    Regards Peter.

Anyone is welcome to give it a try. I really appreciate the help. I will be needing some advice on carpet and displacement for the fireplace. Also I would like to have the glazing have more reflection and a little hint of blue. Ideally I don't want to model too much outside of the glazing so maybe a night shot with all interior lights and large reflection on the glass would be good. Thanks a bunch to anyone that gives it a try.

                            Regards Peter.
