Unfortunately my old employers (www.digitalprogression.com) have removed a lot of the gaming stuff from their portfolio but I think the biggest, in terms of exposure and negative press was the first Crysis game (http://gamefiles.alphacoders.com/box.../front/2-1.jpg). I've tried to find references to people criticising online but most of the articles and forum posts are from 2007 and have vanished, but it was stuff like this http://www.gamernode.com/box-art-for...wn-not-so-hot/

I know I've mentioned this on here before but my favourite thing about working on that was that the machines we rendered the 15k high artwork on weren't powerful enough to run the game

And here I thought all those years that Crytek usually did their stuff inhouse. Don't know how I even came to that conclusion. But thanks for the interesting fact that the machines you did the renders on couldn't even run the game. It was definitely funny how long the first Crysis game was kept around in Benchmarktests for CPUs/GPUs.
In terms of Cover Design I actually have no Idea if "Guy holding gun and looking into the camera" was already overused in 2007. Nonetheless the article you linked just seems to mindlessly bash on the cover for no reason, especially the comparison between the armor design and a stormtrooper from star wars holds no water.

Even if the design/layout is something to argue about, still the overall quality of the piece is still great. But discussions like that you rarely find in the comments section of articles ;P
      Cheers,

I must state that the model of the nano suit was created by Crytek and was incredibly well done. This was at the start of the trend of people creating high res models first to pull normal maps from and it was the first time we'd ever been supplied an asset that was good enough to hold up to print res. We still needed to UV, texture, rig it, pose him...etc. of course - that was not a quick job!

I remember seeing one of yours way back in the day - maybe for a burnout game? either way it was of a car crash with frozen mid air debris and kind of blew my mind at the time.
