  • Dyer House Plan

These small houses are kind of my bread and butter and this one has a special place for me. My client is a stock home plan designer and I have always cringed when I see the renderings house plan people use. People are so visual and most of the stuff I see on their websites would turn me off, even if the plan itself is good. Anyway, here is an early proof. I don't have colors yet, so I'll post when I am able to move the project along.

Looking good. Just check your wall sideboards. The displacement seems reversed. (Looks like the boards go under each other, instead of over)
    Kind Regards,

The geometry was wonky, which caused the UVW to be wrong. I did the old trick of attaching a box to the walls and then I deleted the box. Anyway, good catch. Here is a low resolution update. I am losing detail on that left wall, which I'll fix.

Nice! I think your greens could be a little warmer. They have almost a blue-ish tone (at least on my screen). Also the driveway looks really shiny.

Where do you get your trees? I really like the trunk on the one to the right....

The trees in the front are from Evermotion. I'll work on color in post... yes, the driveway does look too shiny; if I have time I'll work on that.

Something wasn't right, so I took some more color out of it. Still not 100%, however, it's done.

With these, and the others ones I'll be doing in a series, they don't want dark shadows. I am using an HDRI with the Gamma of .75, which allows me to get softer shadows. I think that they would look better with darker shadows, but it isn't going to happen on these.

there is something that is not working well with the mood of these renderings..... some tweaks in Photoshop may help them

I agree... I have been looking at them and I think it is due to lack of shadows. Here, have at it!

One obstacle I always have is comping skies in PS; it just doesn't work. I have tried everything and I get the white fringe. Point is, I find myself having to stick with my HDRI's sky and sun height.

I moved the V-Ray sun around and placed a plate for my sky. My mail goal was to get light on the entrance and away from the huge garage door, but I trashed that idea and placed the sun behind the camera, which is not typical for my; I'll post an update to compare.

use two different maps with the same HDRI.... one for the vraylight dome and the other one for the background.... the alphas may be different and multiplier so you can get stronger shadows and maybe don't use vray sun in combination with HDRI.

yes. I do that. Some times I need the sun lower, however, it is what it is, in the HDRI. I can add trees for reflection and the V-Ray Sun/ Sky to light my scene, but the lack of clouds suck. What I did now is I used a V-Ray Sun/Sky, with trees around the house for reflections, and a sky mapped to a back plate. I'll post tomorrow.
