  • House colors - what's your opinions?

    Hi all!

Well I haven’t posted anything in a while but I’ve gotta say there has been a huge amount of incredible images here lately (if fact I’m totally blown away by that handycam one today, wow). I’ve been working of this house render this week and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. Let me know what you guys think about which colors your like. I’m leaning toward the buff color version (style 1) but the client has seen a house the style 3’s colors and loves that house. Anyhow I’d appreciate your opinions.

P.S. There are several images showing the work process for this image the on my webpage. There is a link from the projects gallery.

yeah, I like the buff color the most as well.....the off-white is a bit to uniform, the pink one is a bit too strong for my taste.....

    they look really great

the only comment is on the sky...it looks a bit too distracting/ almost pixeleted......don't know if it's just the web version though.....just a bit distracting...

    good work

PS: the landscaping is really great!!!!.....how did you do that front lawn?

Well said Cocolas I looked at the images and thought those exact comments and then read your post. The detail in the house and lawn work is fantastic. And i am also very curious about the front lawn. As for the colors, I think the first color is fitting the style of architecture of the rest of the house, The red brick makes it a little more modern looking but the details are not really modern, so my vote #1. Where is the house located? A regional feel might enfluence the color selection. What are your trees done with too? in photoshop or RPC? If RPC one of the better uses of the plugin. Very nice work!!

I usually associate a grey/white colour with houses of that style, so i'd definetly go for the first one. The pink is definetly out sorry :P

ok i wasn't going to say anything but the renderings look so nice i have too. I do not think your border enhances your images, it actually distracts from them, maybe it is just for watermarking your images here but if so the border would be really easy to crop and you have the light text already. I know it is a strange comment and maybe not what you are looking for but hey if the rendering were not so nice...i would not bother. great work, maybe just leave your logo under with white or solid black around the image. just my 2 cents

yeah, I have to agree w/ Viscacha....the border is way distracting....probably because it's a little too elaborate....just my opinio, though

                    nice renderings but strange architecture!

where do people build houses like that?
its got the "skin" from at least two centuries ago...
is it for a historical disneyland?
                    ludwig XIV meets george w?

(sorry for the short rant, but i can get very excited about architecture)

                    render forza!

OK, everyone loves the grass. I think it's cool to have the little flowers growing, but technically, those are weeds. Anyone who could afford a house like that would probably have a lawn care company and that company would get fired for letting the grass go to seed like that.
It is artistically cool because it adds a lot of interest, but I know my clients would have a fit if I tried to include a field of dandelions like that, unless the house was built in a field.
Great modeling - houses like this are being built all over the place. They're the only ones that can afford renderings!

Oh yeah, one other little technical note - blurring the background gives your house a bit of a miniature model feel. The tree in the foreground doesn't bother me as much, but the background should be sharper. If you're trying to create depth, try and lighten the trees as if there is some atmosphere between the house and the background.
Great job otherwise. The border is a bit much, it doesn't match the sophistication of the house or the quality of the rendering itself - keep it simple.

Hey gang, great comments and I'm loving your thoughts on the colors. I glad to hear the general consensus is for the colors of style 2. I tend to lean toward style 1 only because this is a (somewhat) Greek revival style of house and style 1 is the most appropriate with that style, but that said I like the color of style 2 the most as well. Since this is a typical American suburb bastardized styling (like nlo said, "strange architecture", Greek rev meets French cottage really) I wouldn’t lose sleep with it having style 2’s colors. Thanks a lot everyone!

House was modeled in ACAD, finished with Max 6, rendered with VRay obviously, and final comp and vegetation was painted/photo comped in photoshop. The grass area in max is a shadow matte material and the grass is from the background image which is actually on the real site but from another photo which was enhanced to give it a painted feel. I'm personally finding this somewhat stylized rendering to be the most popular with both architects and the general public. It's kind of old school architectural illustration meeting new tech photoreal rendering. I've been finding that no one (other than us CG guys) gets excited about a photo. Oh well.

I also agree with the depth of field, it would be my critique if I saw this image for the first time as well. Its the result of the background image, at the request of the client, being the actual site and it was sent to me from the architect and of course is was best they had but was a third the resolution of the render. So I had to blur it some to remove the pixelation. Lucky this is a stylized render and can somewhat get away with it but it definitely loses some realism because of it.

p.s. Matt, ha ha, I though that too about the flower actually being weeds, ha ha, but it looks pretty.

how are you making it look like a styilized rendering like that?

                              filters in photoshop or ??
