  • lightmap GI (first try) - Kids patient room

    hey all,
I got my vray 1.45 today so I figured I put it to work. ....

here's my first try with the new lightMap engine.....it's still in WIP status..but coming along.....so far I'm liking it...bu there is still work to do on it..

    c&c welcome.......

PS: the reason for the colors is because this is a children patient room in a pediatrics hospital......hehehe (I didn't pick the colors)

      Nice!!

Nothing to say... maybe u could increase a little the amount of lightmap...

just a little thing... the bed is a little strange...

      Cheers,

        Excellent work Paul!

What type of reflections are you using. It looks like you have blurred reflections and highlights on almost everything. Very nice effect! The floor is outstanding!

My only concerns are the blanket on the bed. It just doesn't look right but I can't say why. And the teddy bear, it looks like it was added in post.

Still, a very, very nice image. Are you happy with the render time you got using lightmaps?

        What were your settings.

            thanks for the comments/crits guys.....

yeah the blanket still needs some work....maybe I'll play w/ simcloth and the material a bit.....as for the teddybear....that was straight from 3d, but you can't see it's shadow from this angle so it looks like it's "comped" in... ......even though it's part of the scene.....I'll touch that up in Pshop

and yeah, there are glossies on everything but the wallpaper..... ....I love the lightmap and its speed....especially in the lighting/mat testing phase.....

I'll post my settings on monday, when I'll have the scene in front of me...

              Very nice image Paul...

Do you know what this may be?? (I hope I didnt dis-respect your work for circling the image... )

leo, good question....and no problem about the circling

                    - the purple circle by the wall base is actually part of the floor patern design...is part of a "path" of circles 3 inches in diameter drawn in the floor, coming from behind the camera.....

                    - the area to the right side of the wall art work.....when I look at the 100% uncompressed tiff image I don't see any issues there....just the funky wall paper texture behind the artwork...

                    - as for the area below the artwork....you have a point there!.....there is some oragish artifact right there which dissapears when I render that area without the artwork....so that is a rendering artifact, but I have no idea what's causing it.
the artwork doesn't touch the wall, so there is no coplanar/double faces happening.... I'm not sure.

                    good eye, man

                    paul.

Think it looks fantastic. What exactly is your light setup? Looks pretty complicated. One minor thing I find somewhat distracting- there's the window frame line peeping through the curtain in the upper right hand side.

Nice work my only negative comments would be about the design..lol but that is the health care industry right? Floor, chairs and the end of the bed are awesome materials. ok ok so the real question now......... how did you get the 1.45 version? Does your studio have alot of licenses? We have 7 and i keep hoping for an email. Nice work
