      Looks great.

When you say 'very fast and light on memory' What kind of speed are we talking about? What were the render times for with and without fur?

Nice look, can you control the direction? Is there a way of tapering or using an opacity gradient over the length of the follicle?

I notice these two parameters in the new help...

            Direction variation
            Generate W-coordinate

which answer my questions but I don't quite get how the W is used. If you have a material defining the diffuse and overall opacity can you also have an opacity across the W somehow?

Here is some of the data: (p4 2.4 1gig)

Render Time GI and Fur - 5:16 mins
Render Time GI and no Fur - 2:23 mins
Render Time Fur and no GI - 2:38 mins

memory usage GI and Fur - 648 megs
memory usage GI and no fur - 618 megs

direction variation controls the lean angle of the hairs though (unless i am missing something) there is no control yet for the overall direction of the hairs.

I expiremented with a gradient ramp, by setting it to UW space you can control the placement as a opacity map along the length.

                  i have a p4 3.06 1.5GB.

I keep feeling that my comp is very slow.

Can you do me a favour and send me your file with all the settings and I will benchmark my system.

                  Thanks in advance

What an odd request. Why not make a file specifically for benchmark and distribute it?

                        SOrry guys.

I am planning to post a file so anyone can render and tell me hte render times, but I have been tweaking the settings and got so confused with the incremental saves that I have to figure out which file goes with wich image.

Since the render times and hardware specs have already bean posted I thought it would be faster to test my machine then for me to sit and go through my file. I will post my file in a feww days when I get a day off work and sort things out.

Please do not be mean to me
