I have this rental property project that I am doing for a small developer. The exterior gray scale, with the latest V-Ray, takes seconds. However, not changing anything, the interiors take hours. I understand light having to bounce, but I am surprised with such a time different. I have the glass layer turned off, so the V-Ray Sun/Sky doesn't need to pass through glass. Any tips? I am using Progressive BF/LC.

This is one interior after 20 minutes. Again, the exteriors took 30 seconds.

It does look very odd, such a scene should render in a few minutes. Do you think you can send it to me at vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can check it out? I don't need the whole scene, just the part of the interior needed to produce the issue.

    Best regards,

Also, this is the same image, but a capture of the VFB. Notice, the noise is exaggerated greatly. Yes, it gets better when I zoom 100%, but why the difference?

Sure, greatly appreciated. It's a really small file; I haven't started texture mapping yet. Here is the file:

You and I both have reported this on a few occassions since late November or early December, but everytime seems the message does not get received by the powers that be.

Back to your post, do you have AO ticket or adding it somehow with a layer? It seems a bit strong, Or is it misleading and everything is default?
          Kind Regards,
          Morne

it makes sense. When you are zoomed out, the pixels scrunch, however, it might confuse people who are just starting.

Yes, on this one I have a dirt map in the override material, otherwise it is hard to see detail. I'm removing the dirt map now to see what happens.

No, removing the dirt map doesn't help speed things up.

If i disable amb occl in your shader - this is how it looks after 5 minutes (on half res)

Here is mine at 5 minutes. So, in theory, doubling the resolution would increase the render time 4X's. Doubling the resolution still leaves the image much, much grainier after 20 minutes.

I suppose its normal. Once you use brute force for primary bounce, the render time in interior will be slow. Just look at all those shadows its trying to cleanup from the window frames. That isn't lit by lights, so pure bf will take long to clean it up for sure.

Only answer - more cpu power

btw I noticed that progressive isnt maxing out the cpu 100% on a regular basis. So this is a performance hit for sure.

MORE POWER!!! It is something I have to seriously consider.

Here is a test with high setting irmap, looks not bad...not bf of course but very quick, 3.5 min at half res.

                          Hi,

I tried to render your scene with adaptive subdivision and i note that if i render with your "render bucket width" (4, the render time was huge but if i reduce it (for ex to 24) render time became more acceptable.
                          Hope it helps

interesting. I usually set it to 24, however, I left the default. 48,

anyway, i forgot to tell you that i reset vray , reassign sun enviro and untick vraydirt into the mat ( it seems to have a big impact on render time, moreover with brute force i think vraydirt is really not necessary...)
