  • One Day he sure will be big and dangerous !

Oh Yes again i had some time to go on playing.

    this is WIP

I decided to make him a friendly guy. A baby nearly. modeled in max,
in about 4 hours, exported to z-brush, modified, textured and displacement in about 3 Hours (this can be faster in zbrush, but you have to know what those damn buttons do at last ).

exported on subdev. level 2 with about 3000 Polys back to max, used GuV tiles in zbrush what is nearly the same as unwrap uvw, exported the color-map and also produced a displacementmap, that caches the geometry difference to a subdev level of 6 (about 1500000) polys.

in Max, i used the vrbitmapfilter format that vlado only made for the import of zbrush immages, and now look what this lovly vray does withit.
Specialy look at the smal details of displaced skinn.

so what do you think of him (sure his eyelids still need to be done)

Render looks great, i agree that reflections on the eyes will help alot.
There are some modeling issues in the face, neck and looks to be foot region. Mainly in the face making the animation of the mouth a little off.

          Looks nice!

            Hi

this is wip of course, and charachtermodelling isn´t my first work. (usualy we do Architectural and design visuals), so this is hobby, and i just started to sometimes moddel charachters.

well it was done with polymodelling, blocking it out of a box. Geddart and me some times ago did spend much time in optimising shortcuts and quads, to get a chance to moddel totaly in expertmode, for polymodelling, this has speeded up my work very much. for the max model i it tookme about 4 hours, while i am sure, experienced charachtermodeller could do it much faster still.

for those of you who are interested in our shortcuts (only for the english max 6 version and a german keybord ), here´s the link also with a explaining pdf.

            http://www.chaoticdimension.com/foru...pic.php?t=7077

hmm his eyes, well there are already some fresnel reflections, but they arn´t strong enough.

i still want to enhance him, eyelids, lips, a tounge, and i want do rigg him, with charachterstudio i think, but don´t know if his wings will be done with max bones. so any suggestions are realy welcome ( i never have the time to do all those charachter tutorials while i would love to do this).

at last i would love to try absolute charachtertools for his legs and some other parts maybe. ill see if i´ll have enough time for this.

a short film with him would be fine lately.

well lordshaitan, could you explain your suggestions what could be done better in face, neck .... maybe i could fix this.

            Thanks

            Tom

it looks like around the nose and eye area its almost fine, and you have the "Edge loops " a-going, but around the mouth it gets a little off.

i hope you can see what i did here.

For correct defermations in the mouth region you need to have the polies make a continious loop around the mouth.

Here is some more info on edge loops if your still having some problems.
                  http://cube.phlatt.net/home/spiraloi.../modeling.html

Also if you want i could play with the model and show you the differences.

Is making a dragon the best way to learn modeling ?

This one more example still makes me ask why are such kind of personnal work so common and... unpersonnal !

                            But anyway, nice modeling skill.

lordshaitan - i love the animations on your website that show the process of modelling an ear/face/dragonhead. Very eye-opening. I've never been involved with this type of modelling before but it looks great.
                              Kind Regards,
                              Richard Birket
