Well spotted Dusan. You're quite right. I accidentally turned down the GI receive properties to 0.5. That's why it's so dark.

This image is back to normal receive settings. I haven't bothered bumping up the AA. It's not a clean model either, so I'm getting light
leaks all over the place. Change a few light settings. It's getting overexposed. Although I do tend to like to exaggerate the contrast more than this though. I prefer my dark areas darker and the light areas lighter.

There, the floor is superb now. But the right sight of the picture is just too damn bright, but i guess its normal due to the amount of light coming in. But one thing is for sure, if i would to darken the left part a tad, id darken the rightpart by two tads

Yeah, the himage would look a lot different if there was a material outside on the ground. It would change the amount of light boucing into
the interior too. Anyway, the whole point of me doing this was to try and figure out why Percy wasn't getting much light onto his floors. there's no reason for hie glass to stop any light from coming through.

hey thanks for the help sunny! But I cant have that nice floor if it means so much of the rest of the house is blown out so bad. On my last image if you look at the back hallway where its fairly bright against that left wall, I wouldn't want it to be much brighter then that. Id like to see your settings though.

an update. Starting on the rest of the home. Plan on completely modelling several rooms in the home, should keep me uber busy for awhile. Heres a more overcast look just for something different. Mainly concentrating on the room in the lower left at moment.

I don't know if you are trying to duplicate the magazine cover photo (and I haven't seen it). But just a general 'heads-up' for all of us doing this kind of architectural work: The photographers for these magazines usually do some VERY creative lighting beforehand to get the effect they want. They might actually have several artificial fill lights and screens to bounce the light around in the space in an effort to make it look better. And frequently these photos are heavily photoshopped as well.

So be wary about what you often see in these magazines. Duplicating their look with a "real-world" lighting package like VRay can lead to a lot of headaches, since the "real-world" photo you might use as a reference is not really "real-world" at all!

              Really!

good point, Ive always assumed that photographers do that and keep that in mind, but I guess its easy to fall into that trap.
