Well, it's actually water, since it's Rice. Therefore it's reflecting the plants. It's around 20 cm of water and some muddy ground below

I think some of it has to do with when the rice is harvested, and also the kind of rice and type of cultivation and cultivar used.
There is actually a fair amount of variety to how rice is grown. I'm fairly certain in most places it is at least planted in water, but maybe harvested in dryer conditions?
Not trying to get in the middle of this discussion. There are a lot of different forms of rice out there, and variance in growing methods. Living in Oregon I don't see many domestic rice patties.
Regardless of accuracy- the harvester LOOKS cool!
