The images are fantastic. Just a couple critq. Is there supposed to be light coming through some of those stained-glass windows? Also, the carpet in the 5th image seems to be hovering off the ground due to the shadow.

Ok, i'll try to explain.
First metod(classic):
1. i.map settings(1920x1440):
Min rate= -5
Clr=0.3
Nrm=0.25
Dist=0.1
Max rate=-2
HSph=80
Interp. samples=15
Secondary bounces mult=0.85
Interpolation type: least squares fit
Sample lookup: Precalc'd overlapping
2. Photon map settings
Bounces: 10
Auto search dist=off
SD=60(80)
Max photons=0
Mult=1
MD=10(13)
Convert to ir map=on
interp. samles=15
Convex hull=on
RT=0
RB=10
Subdivs: direct - 3000, VrayLight - 2500
Warring! ALL UNITS ARE MILLIMETERS!
Here is SALuto's scene:

Second metod i'll explain later.

im sorry but have i missed something or is this just a standard day at the office?....
there is no great secret to lighting a scene .... the secret is experience and knowing what works in what sort of scene. everybody is wishing and hoping there is a Mystical Key that will unlock the talents of vray, but infact its the talents of the user not the tool.... my advice is to Practise, practise and more practise until you know what works and what works for you..... come on guy's ... put the time in !

hmmm. well. beats me. i cant find anything special about this scene either. note to people. the saluto method could also be called the natty method. or the elf method or the zerofractal method since i dont see any special technique used here

While some of them are searching for a mystical key, others are looking to disect other peoples work to better their own. I've not seen the file because I'm apparently not close enough to Mother Russia to download from this place faster than 481 bytes a second.

Second metod(fake):
1. The idea of this metod is making 1 big fake light. And only this light have to generate photons(secondary diff. bounce). Other lights need to make first diffuse bounce. This metod is realy faster then first(classis), but this is "fake" metod.
Here, you can see photon map:

I'm sure is a good method, but i see also there is a lot of people who doesn't want to learn (maybe they don't have time?!) , and prefer just to "cut and paste".
I'll continue to test by myself.... for me this is the "secret".

2 Shishok:
I just opened the Saluto's scene file, but this file have 3 missed dlt files:
- colorcorrect.dlm
- gammamap.dlt
- vectornoise.dlt
The first colorcorrect.dlm is available on the web for max 6, the others two not, only for max 5.
My question is: do you used this scene file for study or not? When the answer is "yes", how did you make to have the same original Saluto's quality render with this file? I need max 5 with this 3 plugins?
They are really important to give the final amazing quality render?
Thank you for explaining,
Congrats for your renders, are simply amazing

You know, I just thought it was the saluto method because all the russian guys keep bragging about it on the site, but really I have no clue. I always think their settings are good and their renderings are technically impressive when I see them, and after two seconds I'm just struck by how horrible the places shown are...
still nice renderings though, but it's hard to get away with the place when you're an architect...
