I hate those websites. The prices people charge are so ridiculously low I wouldn't even bother getting out of bed for them.

yes but you can invite your client there and you both work thereand be protected and you can accept a full deposit before any work is started, just a suggestion, its worked for me for maybe 2 years now

Funny it works for you. I generally ask for 30% in the first 15 days to cover licenses and assets. 80% would make the client run away.

Sorry for your work lukx, it's pretty good... Clients...

yeah I also barely ask for deposit and got hit only twice (this is second time) in 15 years. The first time wasn't that bad because it was easy model but this one really took quite some time but lesson learned.

reason why is a friend of mine had a project for about 35000 euros and he had to model a tonne of stuff, including even wires in walls etc, near the end the architect changed cities and said he didnt want it anymore, imagine, was someone he knew and family friend, i also got burnt a few times but never again but it all depends

3d heads are more or less the most complex/complicated stuff you could do...
specially if they need to be animated you are goin straight to hell..

Always 50% here, unless it's a really large project, then 1/3rd. I think clients expect that and believe it or not, it gives you credibility asking for a deposit. Cash flow is king!

That completely blows, Hair restoration is a fairly niche industry so I think you should name and shame Lukx, What Country, what company? ....

Sounds fishy to me. Could be something else entirely...

Would be worth asking him for your sake what the issue was.

I think he realized that photoshop would be a better and cheaper option in this case.

Honestly, that 3d hair would not make me want to go and get plugs done.
It's uncanny valley bigtime - close enough to look 'realistic' but far enough to be 'creepy'
Would you want to look creepy with your new hair plugs?

Sucks that you got burned, but i think the client had unrealistic expectations about the end result possible with his budget. Perhaps a bit more 'client education' was needed before starting at all.

Oh, and ditto about working for someone from your own country (eastern europe is a magical place)

Well I was ready to work more on more realistic hair but as I said there wasn't much feedback from client. FInally he called me when I sent him invoice for 80% of agreed at the begging cost and told me that I'm trying to rip him off. Yep that's what I heard. Also he started to give me 3d lecture that it's not a problem to download 3d head from internet and render it so I basically didn't do much of a work

After all it sounds like a client you wouldn't want to deal with. He does neither understand nor respect your work. Makes me sad to hear those stories...

By the way, that head was pretty impressive already

Client stories... Just got one that did not want to pay until the building was built. Yup, built. I insisted, he then negotiated the price. I said ok (because I needed the money) but only if you pay me today. He said yes, 3 monthes later, nada. Was not careful on that one. Having heard more about that client, I'm not the only one and I already feel sorry for the next guy he'll ripoff.

We need a deadbeat client list or website.
