  • this one´s for you da elf

    Hi everyone.

Well Da ´elf helped me much to overcome some bugs we found, using fakehighlights together with anisotrophic.

at last this project is finised. its a medicin machine for labratories. that has ended up in a multimedia CD with about 20 real film sequences and about 6 CG shots. there are many glossys, about 1000 000 polys, and animation.

i figured out, that single frame animation would have taken to long to rendere when we wanted to be flickerfree, and Direct computation together with lightmap in secoundary passes would have taken about 1 and a half hours each frame.

At last i did a flightthroug animation with incremental ad to current frame as if it was a flightthroug. I turned off all the animated things, and turned them on again after precalculation was ready for all non animated objects.

the lightning of all animated things is done with a freeware Script that makes a domelight. ("E-light"), that does a nice job.

At last each frame took between 17 and 22 minutes and you nearly cant see, thats not all gi.

again. Thanks Da Elf. It´s people like him, natty and many others that make this a nice place

a single immage from one of the animations.

and here the animations between 3.5 and 5 mb in half pal.

    nice job, tom...

could you share some details about the combination of gi and no gi for moving objects?

    a tutorial?

i once had that problem and i ended up using direct computation...
the result was perfect, but it took ages to render...

      Hi nlo

sorry at the moment i still haven´t enough time for a whole tut.

but here at first for everyone who likes to try the fake domelight, the "e-light" script. just run it from you utilities , maxscript panel.

it produces standart spots from the vertexes of a half geosphere, pointing to the centrum.

you can define the count and falloffs... of your lights. only thing that was missing, was a way to include or exclude objects of your scene for all lights at once. so i had to do this by a selection set and the lightlister for all about 120 lights at once.

i am still not good enough in scripting. but if one of you would fix this missing thing, feel free to do so. only thing to think of, ask the programmer of this free script.

      i found it at www.scriptspot.com.

        Ah yes, ok

in this scene i turned of all moving objekts and only rendered gi for fixed things.

when turning on again the moving things, they still received some gi on parts of their surface, as if i-map arn´t lighted areas on the surfaces, but light spheres fixed in space. so some parts of my moving objects still received some light, which was wrong.

to fix this, i turned of visible to gi and receive and send gi also in the object settings in vray.

the e-light, skydome included only the moving objects, and all vray spotlights also made light on the moving objects.

with loaded i-map , e-light dome , and single spots, rendertime are about 20 minutes in pal.

very nice i still think it would look better with a few space ships and godzilla in it and to have king kong climbing one of the things on the left. but thats just my oppinion

                Hi

thanks you like it so far.

Da elf. maybe this machine is for making genetic experiments to produce some kingkongs. Don´t know. At last this machine is as boring as a machine could be. but the payment was ok. so Jurassic Parc will come next week.

                      hi nvanherpt

its for a company that sells utilities for labratories. a multimedia cd these three avis are only a smal part of the material of the cd.

we did the compositing, the storybord in work together with some guys of that company "eppendorf", and to gether with a cameramen the shots on the real machine.

for special explanations we made 6 cg shots. It took us about two to three weeks overal. for about 25 films like those above.

well not that interisting but a good job at last, and the customers like it what is allready more good.

can you tell me what you used for the wireframe material? and did you do any special lighting for the wireframe?

keen to know what you use for compositing too!

                          cheers, nik.
