Since winter is here i thought to make something to practice in creating snow, so i've found this simple and quite interesting project : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/tr...er-escape.html
Thought to share result with you guys.
Nothing fancy here - max 2017, VRay (of course!), PS, NIK filters, took me a bit less than 3 days to finish on my free time.

It looks very nice! I like the snow on the pine trees a lot One suggestion, the snow on the ground feels a bit hard, perhaps more sss? Otherwise very cool !

Real Nice. I assume you used hdri in vray dome light?

Possibly it's the hard edged bump or displacement or whatever that makes the ground snow look hard. If the underlying geometry was much smoother like in your reference photo that might help to make the ground snow appear softer.

I'm very curious to know how you got the snow on the pine trees. Looks great. Can you describe how that was accomplished?

Cold day...brrr! But seemingly warm inside...cozy! Perhaps a wisp of smoke from that stovepipe (well, I think it's a stovepipe) to really sell it...

Yeah it is free corrected HDRI from no-emotion guys.
I will correct snow a bit today, will add SSS layer.
Snow on trees was quite long process. Low poly geometry and after that particle flow. You can check similar workflow here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu_xgl4NYyM So i've done that on trees part by part, as my PC could not handle whole tree at once.
            Cheers

Ok guys, i've updated the render, made it much softer, also all the snow is stronger SSS material.
What you think of it, any good ?
              Thanks !

I suggest you add another layer of sparkles on top of the snow, then it's perfect. https://www.fxguide.com/quicktakes/v...spec-y-things/

Yeah i miss a bit of that, though i had specle map which worked fine on shaderball, but here it is almost completely invisible. I think i did not have enough AA samples for them to be visible. Or maybe post killed it...
By the way i tried Stochastic but for some reason it did not work well with 2 blended SSS layers (thanks Grant Warwick for awesome lesson about that material !) - sparkles were invisible.

Looks like i had to cheat and add invisible light over snow area to bump this effect.

Beautiful trees. You should make a collection of 5 variations and put them for sale. You'd already have one buyer

Hah thank you. Never thought that this might be interesting for someone
I might do a pack in near future if there will be couple of more people interested in buying this ?

Not later than today I had to change 3D tress with cutouts because the snow wasn't realistic anymore
