Hello Chaosgroup and all V-ray users!
I want to share with you my latest personal work called Horehronec.
Horehronec is name of cancelled train, which traveled through one of most scenic train route in Slovakia (Telgart loop).
This picture is a little tribute to all those local railway routes ,which slowly disappear and their fate is sealed.
Hi-res renders on www.marcelhaladej.com
And because I love V-ray, here is some additional info :
Most of textures were created in Substance painter, it works flawlessly from release of Vray 3.50.04 (glossy fresnel option eliminates all those ugly fresnel looking reflections on rough surfaces). A lot of UDIM's was used in this image.(it would be great to have some automatic UDIM loader)
All foliage was distributed with Forest Pack + some extra hand positioned trees.
For lighting I used one IBL dome light with blue hour HDRI type + Vray lights. I used BF+BF GI solution.
Fog in the background was created with Aerial Perspective (controled by switched off Vray sun). I really like it, you will get fast and clean results.
It would be fantastic, if Aerial perspective could be driven by IBL without using Vray sun.
I like the sampling setup in latest releases of V-ray. You just need to tweek Min and Max parameters of image sampler and that is all. No more scene, material, lighting sampling madness For fast preview I used Progressive sampler, final render was created with Bucket image sampler.
I tried also GPU render(gtx 970 with faked 4GB VRAM) for some smaller tweaking, it worked pretty well. I got fast preview with almost same results as with CPU render (when i compare it to older V-Ray RT ). You guys at V-ray RT department are doing great work!
But I need to upgrade my GPU , because this scene was a bit over my GPU specs.
Looking forward for next V-ray releases
Have a nice day,
Marcel Haladej
