Natty can you post the scene image once you tweak it?
In going from photons in 1.09 to lightmaping in 1.45 I've noticed a loss of nice shadow details in corners and detail. I agree with Nicolaas, right now objects seem to be floating a bit. I've had similar issues with lightmaps.

ok I can see that they are modelled. It must have been the metallic shader against the white that made it look kinda fakey.

              Hi Natty,

Thx m8 for your extreme help here. But I have some questions:

              * The AA from 0-3 is to improve my detail of lines of my cabinets right..
              * Why do I need to overwrite the vray.cfg file ?
              * Why do you set multiplier 0 in environment.. is the gradient ramp taking it over in some way ? I saw that in some tutorialvid of yours as well.
              * What's the difference between HSV and normal exponential ? When do you use what.
              * The lightmap settings..I did some tweaking with it and didn't saw anything in my final render.. why did you tweak it and what was the effect on the final render...
              * The vray lights are probably to get some more light in the room so you don't need to burn the ies lights.
              * You also changed the vray lights settings: you removed store with IR and set smooth surface shadows.. Why ? Do you get more detail ?

Okay a lot of questions, but you also do need to understand these settings in order to get some knowledge in this CG world.. Otherwise I'll have to send you each project heheh..

Many many thx in advance m8..

PS Hope you don't have a hangover !! hehe

OK Nicolaas... Here is an update ,,, had a few hour's tonight so i thought i'd have a go.
Ive taken most of your ies lights out because they just time wasting for no great benifit.
The final image has a little PS work... just to bring out the contrast.

First of all here's the file.... http://render-time.com/vray/nick/Kitchen.rar

hey natty, what was the rendertime on that lightmap render? Im rendering it with direct comp for the second bounce just to see if the GI looks any better, and its still rendering after 12 hours! Im about to just end it.
