  • WIP: Pool Room - Now finished

I haven't posted any of my work in here for a while, so here goes:

This is a WIP, I figured i'd show the process as it might interest some people. The designer is still making changes, and I havent implemented everything yet, but it's getting there.

I think this image will benefit from a different perspective. Althought it is early days. Looks like its gonna be cool!

        Hey, good,
maybe it is missing some sunlight and direct shadow there...contrast !
it's seems to be not an olympic bath, so direct sun will not be disturbing and will make it more warm space.

          Thanks for your comments

          a) square bath...sorry, can't change, that's the designer

          b) camera view, again, choice of the designer

          c) sunlight...the windows face north and there is a significant overhang and a garden outside (to be added). and actually, the client is demanding an olympic-quality swimming pool....there will be huge wood shutters to cover up the windows for when she is swimming

            hi,
i think it would be cool to see the bottom of the pool through the water, its too reflective, otherwise it looking great.

Well, I spent a lot of time playing with the lighting (the most important aspect of this project) and I should've posted more in progress as I went along, but I was getting lazy and frustrated.

Here is the final image of this iteration. It took almost 9 hours at 1600x900 including irrmap calculations, mostly because of the displacement in the wall stone. There's some photoshop work as well to bring out the specular bloom and to comp in the outside which was done as a seperate pass.

There will be another design revision after this, its a WIP for the designers as well

I'd love to hear what you guys think:

wow, thats a long time 9 hours. And at this juncture, Im not really seeing your displaced wall stone. If its not evident you displaced it, then maybe you dont need it displaced. Tried just bumpmapping it?

                    one point perspective.
and ı like the compostion of lines when u put all of them one after other...
                    forms nice illusions

i insist on the pool material and the translucency of the water, the water is foggy cant see the bottom, and i'd be cool if the pool had some lites in it

the stone displacement it what is causing those grooves on the wall (it show up much better at the full 1600x900 resolution)

as for the pool, you can see the bottom corners, but the pool is getting shallower as it goes away from you, I think it's supposed to go the other way actually, so that will have to be fixed in the next revision. And I'll deffinately add swimming lanes

look cool. the water have to be more blue i guess.
or you can put sun light from outside to make some shadows inside th house. maybe it's be nicer i think

i have one comment about the lighting. I always find so many people overlook this part of their image. The background image (outside) and the lighting inside sort of do not match. I cannot tell from the image whether its a bright day, cloudy day, noon, early morning, sunset or otherwise. It is definitely not night though. The best guess i can make is that its overcast but sort of bright outside. Now look at the floor just beside the window inside and outside. You see that from the look of the inside right floor that there is a good amount of light coming from teh outiside. You can tell this because the left floor area is noticeably darker than the right. Now if there is a lot of light coming from the outside why is the right EXTERIOR floor less bright than the left interior floor? The only way this is possible is that if the interior light is much brighter than the exterior light. Even for overcast days this rarely happens, unless it really gloomy outside. Also the wall on the left side of the blue wall is too bright, is it backlighted translucent material? that's my main comment, i thnk the image would look more real if everything matched, theinterior lighting, exterior lighting and the background.
