it's an attempt to try some features of Vray (sss, displacement, light map)

    My question is.
I tried to do the photon tutorial in the vray document a couple of times 'the Sponza Atrium" and it alway sent my machine into orbit. It needed more virtual memory and took forever to set up the lights. I always just killed the render after a couple of hours. Is that tutorial designed for the best machine on the market or am I missing something? I tried saving the photon map to a file and that just crashed my machine (ran out of memory) when I tried to render with it. I am using 6 lights so it's not like I asking for much.

so I went to light map which works quickly. this is what I came up with.

your Ram is very poor ... thats why you cant do photons ...you are running out of memory .... considering windows need around 200 meg to run then you have max running then you have all the apps in the background running .... which probably leave's you 400 meg or so for vray ......not enough ..

so what would be the minimum amount of ram one would need to run vray properly? I noticed vray does not use the CPU at all, 2 to 4 percent, why is that? just for speed?

my machine only can handle 2 gigs,..... guess i'm going shopping, because this situation is annoying.

oh I forgot, I am assuming by the lack of comments the image really sucks? I know it's too dark and is a bit fuzzy.

thats indeed a sign of ram shortage..the cpu's is not fed data fast enough because you mostly get data from your page file.
your cpu usage should be 100% when rendering.

I upped the vray lights in the windows from 2 to 8 and 3 to 10 and increased the light map to .85 from .75 for the secondary bounce.
and have IR for the first.
there seems to be some garbage around the window trim (there is no glass in the windows yet). ??

looks good! Maybe a slight bump and reflection on the floor.

Looks pretty cool. But what are those arcs on the inside of the green piece?

I think the first render would have looked really cool if you would've made the outside night and moonlight streaming through the window.

It looks like low Hsph samples, so does that 'garbage' on the windows.
