i think that you use a linear mapping..

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. Using bump mapping instead of displacement shaved about 5 minutes off of the render time. When I get to the point where I'm using Lightmaps, I think I will have to use displacement though.

As for color mapping, I'm using HSV. I haven't tried Exponential yet.

regarding the indirect lighting on the ceiling... Could you make it not as strong as it is... or maybe wider than it is right now??
