This is rendered in 1.45.78. Are you using 1.09.03? Because displacement modifier has changed a lot since then. Anyhow, you should put the map in the displacement slot of your vray material and add a displacement modifier to your object. Use 3D displacement and check use object material. I think you need to switch off max's default displacement in the common render settings dialog when rendering ion 1.09.03. Really Amazing. Great lighting and as others have said, the artifacts aren't even noticeable with all the other great points of your images.
Only critiques are that the mapping of the displacement isn't equal all around so it make the weave a little unnatural unless this is how they have to create curves with rattan furniture. Also, why are you wasting electricity with that reading light on
