@ Tom .. i know what you mean about the grain ... ive been having a battle with vray on this new build ... i just cant shift the grain the subdiv's of this Ali is 30 ?? but still grain, also with high QMC settings.. im miffed ?
@ s0real .. i got the Job yesterday morning and its to be complete by lunchtime today.. so a quick turn around.
Yeah i agree .... i just cant smooth it out ? really been Bugging me .. there's no way im going to use Interpolation blur it ... i'll just lose the detail.
well no .. i thought about that and come up with a more controllerable way.
First i created a spline and turned on Display Render Mesh.
Set the sides and steps to get a dense mesh..
Then converted to a Editable Poly, selected all the edges, Chamfered then extruded ... then Subdivided the surface by 2 Iterations... and Bingo i think it worked well..
Just a little something that I find as a mistake - the two holders that hold the lamp on the sides are not on the diameter of the lamp. If one wants to rotate it, so it looks on the other side, it would be impossible.
About the graininess - can you tell me something more about the material you are using? Also you have Irr+QMC in the GI, don't you?
... and the hose is really nice ... why did you chamfer ALL the edges (or at least that is what I understood) - from the image I can see only the cross-section edges chamfered, not the length ones. And why did you chamfer them before extrusion of the faces. I usually do it the other way around - extrude to have the shape, then apply subd to see the preliminary result and chamfer the edges necessary (takes a hell of a time ) Editable Poly rulez though, I like it much better than Editable Mesh.

Not sure, but I believe there is no need for the holders to be in the middle if it may rotate 360° around by it's upper articulation.
Very true, Nenad, this is something I didn't think through, but still in my opinion I think that it should be in the diameter - looks more natural. I am not trying to dig and amuse.
the unit rotate's from the fixing @ the top and also the centeral rotation from the pivot.... so really its not designed to point straight down ...
and the reason for the chamfer was to subdivide ...
