  • Ritz carlton sunny isles - Animations

Here's a a pair of animations we finished a while ago which have gone public. They are only on the clients facebook though so I re hosted it with a password. password is 'ritz'
They are the companion animations to the still images I posted months ago ( https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...on-sunny-isles )
I'm really happy I got them to sign off on some music that was a little more exciting than these normally end up with, we tried to make something that was engaging and fast paced for people outside of the buying process.
Doing them both at the same time and trying to keep them different but at once the same was tough at times. not a lot to work with and the client wanted every shot to sell something new after they nixed all our rack focus/detail shots once we'd already started work.

if you're like me you'll probably go to the grave with a handful of flythrough animation tracks stuck in your head for at least two or three reincarnations here on earth...... well done!

Crazy warnings about going to VIMEO, so I can't see the animation, however, the stills are beautiful.

          speechless!
did you use camera tracking for the backgrounds? or is it 360 spherical photos?

What warnings have you received about going to vimeo?

Leo - It was all stitched drone photography that we shot ourselves. A couple of them have some projection on to get some parallax, but a lot more need it really, we didnt have time to do it on every background.

                  very nice work neil
are you doing finishing in fusion still?

(you need to animate that speedboat on one of the backplates )

neil, could you explain me the workflow of the mapping projection technique? I've never done that before and I'm in the middle of a project where I can take advantage of it.

On UnitA in the end too bad the outside is not a video but still. Quite weird thing to see that waves are not moving
                      Great job overall !

                          Ha! thanks
Yeah, fusion for everything. just got 9 this week. Feel like 7&8 were mostly blackmagic fixing up what they bought and cleaning it up, this one actually feels like a real update.

I'm also not happy with the backgrounds being still - we ended up buying our drone and re shooting them pretty late in the process. Tough to get nice weather at the time of year we shot it too, it was early summer at the start of rainy season.
We have since done some internal tests where we film with the drone hovering in place, track & stabilize the footage to get rid of wind shake so it can be projected back onto geometry. It's not raw though so we still need to mix it with a photo. and they'd need to pay us more as it is not quick to do..

Leo - the projection mapping technique is where you make some simple geometry that matches the perspective of the scene and get a second camera to project the background image onto it. then when your main camera moves, the parts of the background that are closer move more & perspective looks correct. That's in it's simple form - you can make it more complex by cutting buildings out to place on single planes with alpha channels so that the buildings shift over each other too.
There's not really any good single resource I can see for it, but this goes over the idea pretty well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdO-mMnMxFk
It's pretty simple, only made more difficult by what your image is.

                            Looks great, nice work Neil.

I didn't notice the backplates weren't animated, I think there's enough movement with the cameras and within the scene that it always keeps your attention. Maybe a bit heavy on all the steam but perhaps that's just me.

This is really beautiful. Just to be pickey, indeed the still backplates is disturbing. But the feeling of luxury is everywhere, top work.
