  • WIP - Pedestrian bridge - C&C

This is something I'm currently working on. I would like some input on how everyone does terrain. I usually try to model everything in VIZ and do very little in post production but I think I'll try and just get my terrain down and do most of background in Photoshop. Comments and Critiques are also welcome. Thanks. Regards Peter

filling out the scene now but I'm not sure if it is losing some crispness, or clarity. Anyone have some suggestions? I'm not, obviosuly, going for a realistic image but it seems to be flattening out as I add things. It could be that I am just looking at it too much. Please give me some feedback. Do you think that it is losing clarity as I add my other objects. Is it a problem with the textures, or lighting. thanks for any advice.

      Regards Peter.

i think you could improve this grass adding soem displacement and diferent tones on it. maybe it can bring the reality to the image, . though its a nice composition

Thanks Silver - I will definitely be working on the grass, and trees. The biggest problem I think with most of us is that we stare and the same image for days on end and it seems to lose something and we aren't quite sure whether it is the changes we've made or just the fact that we're kinda sick of looking at it. That's why I love the feedback from this forum. Thanks again.

          Regards Peter.

are you using any GI at all? the shadows are looking too flat as though you just have a direct light and you have max ambient light turned on.

Da-elf - Really? Does it look that bad? Here are the settings for my light. I am using one target direct with Vray shadows with the
settings listed here. Is there a problem with the lighting? Should I be using a vray light? What about Photon mapping? I have about
1 1/2 weeks to get this image more realistic. I have only had Vray for about 6-8 mos and been very busy. Any suggestions are
              greatly appreciated. Thanks. Regards Peter.

ok. the cars. are they photo composits? or 3d? they look like photos i guess. as for the settings. make the multiplier on your direct light (sun) 0.6, lower your first diffuse bounce to 1 and secondary bounce to 0.8. you could try with an irradiance map of higher quality in the presets. your GI environment should be 0.5. are you using color mapping? if so you could turn it off for these settings.

Thanks - I'll give those a try when I get home. The cars are RPC and I kinda like them. Should I try and find mesh cars? That may help with them. I will be trying some displacement grass and getting some more realistic trees in the foreground and infront of the fill trees. I'll post when I try those settings out and show you the results. I don't think I'm using color map but I don't think I've changed that setting off of the default. Where is that setting? Thanks again I really appreciate it.

                  Regards Peter.

i personally prefer mesh cars since they interact with the scene much better i find. see under the bridge your cars are having shadow problems. I unfortunately dont have any rpc stuff so ive got no experience in getting them to work well. all my people and cars are stuff ive scrounged up from searching the net in places like 3dcafe and the free stuff from turbosquid.

Well - here's the final. What do you guys think? Any comments or critiques are welcome. Thanks to Vu Nguyen for all the help with lighting and materials.

nice finish to it. i would lower the blur on the shadows and would still use poly cars. im sure it would boost render time with the nice 3d motion blur but hey. would look sweet

Two things I don't like. The glazing cuts off too abruptly and there is a dark outline around the blurred cars. Other than that, great improvements.
