  • help on animation

We are working on a large urban project. So far we produced tones of pictures but we want to do some animation tests. This time we would like to explore different alternativs of getting real people into the movie.
As we understand there are 2 ways of doing it. ( please correct me if im wrong ).

    - we animate the camera in the modell and we place some kind of peope in motion along cameras path.

    - or we film people in real life and try to composit film with animation.

I must say i have never seen anything good done with alternative 1 and we do not really know how to deal with the 2nd one. We simply have no experience of this kind of production. So i wonder if there is someone out there who has done things like this and can share thoughts about it?

here is the link to some pics from the project:

    Hi
Iguess you need to use combustion with the second method, Im not an expert, have a look at this one and have a chat with him.

Well, you'll really be limiting yourself to certain camera moves if you try to composite in video of a real person into the scene. You'll also need a high-quality video camera, greenscreen material and compositing software like Combustion or After Effects. The catch is as the camera animates in the software, in order to get the people to look convincing you'll have to somehow match the camera move in real life to the software camera move (or vice-versa). Then, there's a lot of work color correcting everything so it looks somewhat natural.

I've shot some video of myself on a greenscreen and comped it into an animation I made, but in order to make it look right I could only animate the virtual set one way (because my perspective never changed). So the camera can pan and zoom, but not rotate around me.

Unless you have a large budget and a lot of time, I'd just invest in some low-poly animated people or RPC's and use them. Inserting a model into video that's been shot isn't nearly as difficult as inserting an object into an animation that's already been made - it's easier to make the virtual camera match a real-world camera than it is to make a real-world camera match a virtual one.

      Make any sense to anyone?

Do you have some experience of animated people ? Or do you know where i can find some sequences ? This would be kind of "in house test" so we want to try something we believe can be something esthetical and pleasent to look at if you understand what i mean

Maybe this link to the lowpolygon3d website can help you along. You will need some experience with CS though and some good motion capture software. Other then that I think the 3d people they have would do a great job for fly over.

          Good luck,

          Marc

IMHO I would use either lowpoly 3D or RPC, look at the ad on CGTALK where there is a nice camera movement around people, I think that effect would work well on your scene. Mixing real footage could open a massive can of worms, also its probably not a good time to learn at production stage.

Images look great, what way did you create the shop interiors, I am about to start something very similar i.e. row of shops and would like to achieve this,

            Thanks,

            Tom

              thanks for the link Marc.
Tom: all you need to do is set up some simple planes mapped with images. It is very simple to do but gives good base for postwork.

              Hope it helps.

Did you take the photos or is there somewhere to download similar (legit of course)

                Thanks,
                Tom
