    Which is better for VRAY?

    32-Core Threadripper 3970X or 32-Core 2x Xeon 6226R?

The Intel Xeon Gold Series seems to be more expensive, but that doesn't make it better.

Bobby get 3990x you won't regret it, just be sure you get proper cooling for it.

I am thinking about 3990x too. But what is proper cooling according to you? I have a friend that have standard air fan for TR4 on 3990X. Another with water cooling, not sure if its NZXT or what, but all is pretty similar. And finaly another with custom loop. Every gear works, of course temperature is best on custom loop. But what do you think what is good cooling for it? Thank you.

I just read Intel's new 10th gen i9 (correction) is supposed to beat Ryzen. Is this true?

Beat Ryzen in what? And which Ryzen CPU exactly (there are like 20 different models)? 10th gen i7 is the 10700k which is an 8-core CPU. It isn't even remotely as fast as a Threadripper in rendering. It is at best as fast as the $300 8-core Ryzen 3700x in rendering.

Regardless of peak performance, being intel, it seems like it will probably lose on a performance/$ whether its Ryzen/i9 or TR/Xeon.

But with the new 10th Gen CPUs, Intel has once again made a firm claim the top performance spot with the Intel Core i9 10900K coming in at about 8% faster than the similarly priced AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, or 6% faster than the more expensive AMD Ryzen 9 3950X.

That's mostly just for single core operations for photoshop. See this for vray...https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/ar...-3rd-Gen-1764/

When you consider that the 10980xe is a ~$1000 chip (you can find some good deals though) and the 3950x is $725 and they get roughly the same scores it seems an easy choice. However both the 10980 and the 3950 aren't really new, they both are about a year old. I don't think intel has anything that can even compare to the 3990x at a price that is anywhere close.

I'm not sure where you're getting these numbers, but Ryzen 3900x is a tiny bit faster than 10900k in Vray while Ryzen 3950x is quite a bit faster at +34%. Can I ask why you are looking at 8-12 core CPUs? Do you need a budget rendering machine?

By the way, AMD are literally releasing tomorrow the new Ryzen CPUs based on the Zen 3 technology which blows away anything Intel has at the moment core for core. I suggest you watch the reviews tomorrow (14:00 GMT if I remember correctly) before making any decisions.

If I look at chaosgroup benchmark scores, your current setup beats your proposed setup by quite a large margin. Did you mean to write 3960x or 3970x or 3990x?
I would ask the same question Alex_M is asking above...
