That CPU is running at under one Volt, this is actually way lower than what is used out of box.. XFR will use voltages like 1.42 and higher to go above 4 GHz on a few cores, you can check on that
I mean this OC is safer than the voltages used by default ? And the CPU runs cooler as well
So yeah it is 100% safe and covered by AMD and Asus warranties..
Most of the boards use overclocking features, specially the ones I mentioned to Bobby. They can handle more extreme settings than this.
Even if you mess up with voltages, the board turns off at 95 degrees and prior to that it warns you before you apply the settings..
The only way you can fry your CPU or board or both, is turning off all the safety features and running the CPU hot for a while
And if you ever RMA the CPU or board, there is no way for AMD or Asus to know if you did any overclocking (unless you fried the chip/CPU)
Say if something else happened, and you wanted to RMA the board.. they will not be able to know if you OCed or not.

Another with water cooling, not sure if its NZXT or what, but all is pretty similar. And finaly another with custom loop. Every gear works, of course temperature is best on custom loop. But what do you think what is good cooling for it? Thank you.Dmitry Vinnik

NZXT is probably small on every single product right? But is standard fan efficient enough to cool down 3990X? I mean in a lot of renderings and long term.AMD TR 7980X, 256GB DDR5, GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, Win 10 Pro

What cooling do you have for the 3990x ? I'm currently looking and no cooling option seems perfect. Either you have good ones, but not with a Threadripper sized plate, either other ones with bad reviews (Enermax Liqtech TR4 II for example)... Hard to find something you can rely on.
Up to now, I always had Noctua Air coolers. I'm also lurking at the ProSiphon Elite 240 which seems to be an "in between" solution but pretty optimized for the Threadripper.
Who has a 3990X and is super happy with the cooling system ??

I recently bought a 3990x with this cooler
Coolermaster LiquidML360 RGB TR4
It was the only one on the spec list the build website would use. They said all others on the list were insufficient for the cpu. Ive got a large be quiet dark base pro 900 rev 2 case which has beefy fans and lots of airflow space. So far so good!
Temperatures at full load are around 70C. Idles around 40C ish.Last edited by seandunderdale; 25-05-2021, 06:41 AM.

Thanks, that's interesting. For how long is your system running ? And what is your Vray Bench score, if I may ask ?
Its running Vray RT or production renders 6 - 8hrs a day. Can go up to 20ish hrs if its rendering overnight. Vray benchmark using the new benchmark (very different scores to the old one) was about 55,000 I think.
