I need the recent build of V-Ray for M1 - that doesn't exist.

Chaosgroup said they won't release it this year even though M1 has been around for over a year...

As Vlado said this comes out soon with update 2 for C4D and other products.
And yes, M1 has been around for some time, adapting and development takes time, it is now complete for V-Ray's core
It is just a matter of time for the different integrations(plugins) to pick up this update

Wait, so why is there no development for V-Ray Rhino Mac? I'm guessing that Macs will never really compete with a good desktop with 2 or more RTX cards in rendering speeds. Macs might actually be ok to render single images (Rhino), but way too slow for an entire animation (C4D). It really seems weird to go for C4D and not Rhino. I know a lot of architects and product designed love the Apple ecosystem and use Rhino as their main program.

Hey, what about Vray for Rhino on M1 Macs? Is there any hope? If so, when? And what to do until then?

Great news on the m1 version! Will there be a version of VRay for Rhino on the mac ?
            Best regards

Muhammed_Hamed I am also curious about V-Ray for Rhino Mac. Now that the new Mac Studio is out, that looks super tempting to switch back to Mac like we used to.

              Is there any hope?

Nothing in the near term. How much do use Rhino on the Mac vs Windows?

I've always used Boot Camp to run Windows on my Macs, but now with the new M1 chips I'm running Windows 11 through Parallels. I prefer Rhino on Windows, but don't mind it on Mac, but that preference was "acquired" only because V-Ray was not available on Rhino for Mac. Right now V-Ray for Rhino on Windows is still laggy and buggy for me, the Cosmos Browser doesn't even load up and most of the time the entire system just hangs.

Will V-Ray for Rhino on Windows be updated to work on M1 chips any time soon? Of course, I'd much prefer to use V-Ray for Rhino for Mac, to avoid the hassle of using Parallels and Windows 11, but it seems from what Muhammed says above it won't be coming any time soon, unfortunately.

It seems like an untapped opportunity to offer V-Ray on what seemingly can be extremely powerful systems. Would love to see it run on both my MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro, and my Mac Studio M1 Ultra.

Thanks for the reply and feedback, I have shared this with the team. We are looking into options for a Mac OS port at the moment
I will update the thread once I have news on the topic

Thank you, Muhammed, that is much appreciated. Hopefully we will have updates soon, so we can plan our workflows and hardware purchases. Personally, for now, I cancelled my Mac Studio M1 Ultra order, and bought a refurbished 27" iMac with the 10 core Intel i9 chip so that I can actually get work done. Rumour has it that the next M2 generation of Apple Silicon chips will have Ray Tracing acceleration, if that turns out to be accurate, those would be absolute beasts of a machine.

Hello to all, has anyone tried the V-Ray 6 beta for Rhino on Apple Silicon? Seems like the Sketchup version supports ASi, but no info in the release notes for the Rhino version. Are there plans for support for version 6?

Furthermore, has anyone tried the Sketchup version to see what the performance is like? Many thanks!

Hi everyone! Long term Mac user and don't want to move away from this environment.
                          I'm currently on this:
15 inch mid 2015 Macbook Pro
                          2.5GHz Quad core intel i7
                          16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory
Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 2GB, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB. (I have little idea of what all of the graphics stuff means!)

I make sketchup models on this and for what I do it's perfect. We have started rendering them in the last few months using Vray for Sketchup and it seems to work pretty well on a fairly new windows desktop at work.
However I'd like to be able to do these myself on my laptop, and I think it's time to upgrade. I loaded up a Vray trial on my laptop and it's (unsurprisingly) significantly slower to do renders than the windows desktop machine.

SIMPLE QUESTION: If I want a new 16 inch Macbook Pro, and the most demanding thing I'll use it for is Vray for Sketchup, where should I put my money? Larger memory or a faster processor? M1 Max or M1 Pro? (I use google drive both for work and personal stuff so total storage isn't really relevant) for me.

For example, if I go for 32GB memory, I can go for either:
                          -M1 Pro 16 core GPU
-M1 Max 24 core GPU for an additional £200
-M1 Max 32 core GPU for an extra £100 again (so £300 more than the Pro)

Alternatively, sticking with the M1 Pro I can save £400 by going down to 16GB instead of 32.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Are any of these combinations less good value for money, when it comes to rendering Sketchup with Vray?

                          Thanks for your help!

You will be able to use V-Ray and V-Ray GPU, with the native M1 versions of V-Ray for C4D and V-Ray for SketchUp
V-Ray GPU will run in CPU mode

                          Best,

You don’t need additional GPU cores (at least for Vray), try to maximize the CPU core count. 32GB of RAM will be enough for most people.
A new MBP is just around the corner so if you can wait a couple months you will get a faster machine for the same money.
