  • What soft to check thermals on NEW 5950x and 3090 system?

    Hi all

So I have a 5950X on Asus Dark Hero with NZXT X63 cooler, Asus Strix OC 3090 White

    1) My Software monitoring options:

Asus Armoury Crate (came with the Dark hero mobo) - NOT INSTALLED
NZXT Cam (came with NZXT Kraken X63 cooler, with supplied pre-applied thermal paste) - INSTALLED
HWMonitor from CPUID, downloaded - INSTALLED

NZXT Cam and HWMonitor seems to report same thermals, so I'm geussing that means what I'm seeing is correct.

CPU is idling on average around 38 to 39 degrees, but sometimes spikes to 50 to 54 for a second or two if I simply open an app or install something new. During load (VRayBench), I get around 61 degrees. Seems temps are either low around 38, or high, around 61 or 62. The higher the temps, the lower the clock speed seems to go, according to NZXT Cam.

GPU idles at around 39 degrees and the fans dont spin at all, which at 1st was a bit of a shocker, but after some googling, apparently that is normal. During VRayBench CUDA temps go up to around 51 and on RTX around 56, but weirdly NZXT Cam repports the GPU Load is only 1%

    2) I'm not a big fan of all the RGB mania, so I will probably install Armoury Crate just so I can switch off the GPU and Mobo RGB's (mobo can be done from BIOS, but then I still need to switch off the 3090 RGB)

    3) I did not connect the Kraken X63 RGB connector, since I dont have nay other NZXT RGB devices. However, if I for som reason one day to decide to use the RGB, can I sync the MOBO RGB, GPU RGB as well as Kraken X63 RGB together? What soft will I need to do that?

    4) I would prefer not to have 20 different apps for all this, but a single app. Should maybe be looking at the Asus AI suite, or is that mainly for overclocking?

    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Congrats Using two things hwinfo and argus monutor, to rule all the coolers in system. This is all you need. Argus is just amazing!
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

      Hey Morne

      Congratulations on the new build

Use GPUZ, CPUZ and HWinfo, it is all what you need for monitoring.
HWMonitor is not HWinfo, they are different. The latter is much better, use the sensors checkbox to only show what you need in the UI

This is expected behavior on Ryzen CPUs, they operate at much higher temps at idle compared to Intel. And underload, they are much cooler than the recent Intel CPUs
The spikes are expected as well, in some single-core tasks the CPU can get hotter than rendering or stress testing all cores. FYI normal operating temps for this CPU is up to 90C, then it will throttle
The cooler you run your CPU, the higher it boosts and below 85 degrees or so you will have a longer life span of your CPU and Mobo

The fans not spinning is a feature, it is great honestly and keeps the setup silent. Nothing is wrong with this, but it could be changed if you wish to(in MSI AfterBurner)
51 degrees and 56 are expected for GPU rendering, if you stress test with something like Heaven or FurMark it will be much hotter and you will see how loud the fans can get
Running Heaven for an hour to make sure the card and PSU are all good is recommended, as GPU rendering doesn't push the GPU wattage as high

Different ones sadly, unless you have an Asus cooler, Asus Mobo, Asus GPU, then you will use Armory crate
In your case here you need CAM + Armory Crate

AI Suite is very helpful, install Armory crate as well
From inside Armory crate you will have a list of the needed apps, nothing else is needed
