  • nvidia rtx 6000 ada crashing Vray 7 3dsmax 2024 GPU/rt

    Hi all,
    Requesting help and/or guidance.
    Cant seem to render with GPU.
    When I get errors they are:

    [11:38:40.231] error : c:\ci\cgrepo\vraysdk\samples\vray_plugins\rt_priva te\rt_opencl_(2153) : cuda error 700

    [vutils::voptix:ptixpipelinewrapper::launch] 7900: optix error encountered in vray_optix7.cpp[315]. error code 7900

    and sometimes 3dsmax will just quit. I've sent in all the reports.
    Cant send the Scene in (work)
    most of the time after rendering a few frames it stops and stops rendering,,, then If i tell it to continue then it crashes.

    I did search and only found others asking for help also with the same or similar issues.

    any fixes or help? at 1/3 the time the CPU renders of the same scene, i need this to work.

    I've tried driver 572.16 and am currently on 573.06.
    both have the same set of errors.
    only happens with GPU rendering.​

    Hi randy_dunnn and welcome to the forums!

    Could you please install the recommended driver 572.xx with the clean install option turned on. Then restart your machine and rerender your sequence. It could be helpful to keep an eye on GPU memory usage. There was a memory leak with other drivers recently, I suspect this is the issue here. Let me know how this goes

        Are you using any Frame Buffer features like Render region?
        Could you please try with GPU LC, does that help with stability?
        If we reproduce on our side I will make sure this gets addressed. We do have the RTX 6000 Ada at office to test with
        Is there a chance you could send us a sample scene that crashes for you, under NDA?

          most of my work falls under the US ITAR restrictions , so I cant send you anything, sorry,

          I will try with GPU LC.

            you said to try "GPU LC"
            use light cache with the GPU 7 hotfix?
            or
            install the new VRAY GPU driver (that we don't have a license for)

              This one is a mind bender, Error 700 could be many things including hardware and software issues. Do you keep an eye on GPU memory usage, does V-Ray GPU run out of GPU memory?
              Do you have displacement in this scene?
              Could you please uninstall the Chaos Cosmos browser and disable the Comos service then renrender the sequence?
              Also try without GPU LC, use BF/BF GI it will be a bit slower but will use less GPU memory
