  • vray gpu pushed to the extreme's... and some requests

hah! finally i have proper posting rights! (thank you)

so, soon as i heard vray rt gpu was going beta i ran out and bought a new power supply and 3 gtx-480's to pop in my computer.

yesterday was a day of testing... lots of testing.

the cumulation of it all were these numbers:

    91 seconds via CPU render
40 seconds via CPU RT render
15 seconds via GPU RT render - gtx285
10 seconds via GPU RT render - gtx480
6.2 seconds via GPU RT render - gtx480 (dual)
    4.9 seconds via GPU RT render - gtx480 (3-way)

this fits in line with vlado's expectation of a 20x increase in speed with that many SLI cards (note the last one didn't decrease by a usual 45% due to my motherboard only having 4x available for the final PCI-E slot)

    now, some bugs... and requests...

-i need (read: must have) texture maps for plane lights... must must must.
-when loading in a full sized car and a 40mb hdri map... i get driver crash issues. i can post up the vray dump file next time it happens if it helps.
-it would be good to have vrayblend materials working...

btw vlado, when are going to keep working on that special shader?

like i said, if i had a motherboard that was 16x for all slots... it might be different. it could keep half'ing itself.
