  • VRAY_OPENCL_MIXED_MODE Bucket Errors

I just tried enabling VRAY_OPENCL_MIXED_MODE set to 1 and started to receive some bucket errors. I have DOF, Vignetting, and gamma burned in. Scene uses default/standard mats with VraySun. I was just testing this to see if I'd gain any performance improvement.

    System specs:
    Dual X5355
    Geforce 260 GTX
    nVidia Drivers: 258.96 WHQL (latest)
    Win 7 X64

Interesting... Im not sure if GPU is supporting vignetting... but anyway I did CPU render only and it looks like Sun its not casting any Diffuse light. So bassically ur GPU is rendering it correctly and the bits that are rendered by CPU are darker because there is no diffuse light.... or so... I'm using the original release from few days ago not the new 1.... try using only CPU one see how it looks.

Also for how long did u left it to render? Could be that CPU its simply slower than GPU and it takes a bit longer to render...

    My render mixed..

GPU does not support vignetting; try turning it off and see if it matches. I'm currently working on printing warning messages whenever unsupported features are used, and turning them off automatically when translating the scene for the gpu - looks like this will save a lot of trouble.

      Best regards,

and what type of engine do you choose? , or it doesn't matter?

Yes, you need to choose OpenCL; otherwise it will stick to the CPU only.

              hello,
sorry if I'm a litttle late there but how you "set VRAY_OPENCL_MIXED_MODE to 1" ? Thanks

Click OK to close all the dialogs and then close the V-Ray render server. Next time it starts, it will attempt to run the CPU and the GPU engine in parallel. But, like I said, this is very experimental.

                  Thanks vlado ! but "this is very experimental" : 3dsmax 2011 / nvidia 3800 / win seven / 2x X5355 @2.66Ghz
                  => don't work...

Is there a chance to minimize time when VRay RT wait for image data ?

Reduce ray size from 256 to 24, and the one below too

For me its either 32/32 or 16/8... just remember if its too low U wont use 100% gpu... only 50% ... other 50% wont be used because of data transfer speed... ( I guess dunno tbh aint engineer..)

Use EVGA Precision tool to fine tune ur gpu setings GL

using the mixed mode i get a render with visible slight darker blocks

I think that now GPU and CPU render are unbalanced or don't support the same parameters, in my scenes I use the colorcorrect plugin

will you add a checkbox to activate this hybrid render?

each farm needs the variable set to 1?

there is no difference using GPU+CPU mixed mode, I get the same noise

the only difference I noticed is that the cpu pass use more 3ds max (vray) parameters than the gpu pass, the result is a blend of two renderings.

is better to use only the gpus at the moment

                          Best regards.

It might be because of the camera vignetting (which is now supported in build 12725).

If you only use the gamma parameter, it should work fine.

It depends - do you find it useful?

Yes, it is a local setting for each machine.

                            Best regards,

It could be useful, but I'd suggest a warning box that notes discrepancies or something that automatically turns of some unsuported features such as CPU vignetting.
