I didn't think Vray RT GPU supported the ATI Firestream/FirePro cards? My understanding was that ATI's Open CL was still in validation phase, for the most part. Please confirm that you are using Vray RT GPU with ATI cards

      I think it has 1.5GB!!
Maybe I bought it. It has better performance then 480 and much less noise and watts.

FYI. Cinebench 11.5 results with OpenGL on my new Quadro 4000. Still waiting on the GTX 460 to run some testing. I got my hands on a modified Quadro fermi driver that will work on the GeForce GTX fermi cards. I'm interested in seeing what, if any, difference this will have on its viewport performance in Max.

          hi.
i'm thinking of getting the new gtx 570 http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/produ...tx-570-uk.html to use with vray RT

          current system is as follows:

          dual xeon E5345 @ 2.33GHz
          4gb ram
          geforce 8800gtx (128 cuda cores)
          vista64

i'll add another 4bg of ram when i get the new card.

hopefully this will give me a nice performance boost over my current setup. (8800 has 128 cuda cores - gtx570 has 480 cores)

does anyone have any comments or advice before i place the order?

          thanks.

unfortunately 580 is a bit too expensive for me.
i know it has less ram, but the 570 should be a little faster than the 480 + runs cooler + quieter... hmmm...

AMD has just released some specs on the upcoming Radeon 6970 - see here: http://fudzilla.com/graphics/item/21...runs-at-880mhz

It has 2 gb of ram and the performance will probably lie between the gtx 480 and 580. For me it seems like a very good alternative to the nvidia offerings - especially due to the larger memory!

However I haven't had Radeons for a long time, so not sure how the drivers perform in 3D studio max! Any experiences?

BTW - the Radeons 6950/6970 are supposed to come out in 1-2 weeks - http://fudzilla.com/graphics/item/21...sted-in-france

Of course a lot can go wrong....but wouldn't it be nice to play around with RT GPU and a new fast graphics board in the holidays...

I can't give more details for NDA reasons, but we do have the official V-Ray RT 2.0 (the same build that's on the site) running on ATI cards here in the office.

                      Best regards,

No, unfortunately I can't. It should become apparent very soon anyways

Sounds to good to be true...! I haven't heard any rumours about 4gb versions, but I sure as heck want one

The fact that no games would really benefit from 4 gigs of ram and that the cards would compete with the much more expensive pro cards, doesn't make it plausible....!

But I'm certain they would cell like hotcakes in the viz community

@dpmitchell: How did you get on with this? And can you tell us what GeForce card you tried the drivers on?
