    Hi everyone,

does anyone have any good recommendations concerning a good monitor with accurate color display. I have no idea what direction I have to look at, calibrating wise. Right now I have 2 IIYAMA PROLITE XB2472HD and 1 Panasonic 42inch tv to model on. Problem is, I sometimes forget to switch my VFB to the better monitors for color display, because the TV has terrible colors. Even while working the frequency is too low. So I want a good monitor 27 inch or bigger, with accurate colors, that can be calibrated if necessary (does this calibration work internally or is it with an addon or software of some sorts). Also I have no idea about price, so please no excessive 2000$ suggestions.

    Kind regards.
    A.

    I highly recommend the Dell's
For calibration, get yourself a X-Rite ColorMunki

I've heard (a few years back) that for accurate color display your monitor should have a special kind of panel. I don't remember which one exactly and google didn't help me so far as to provide me with a good answer. IPS, VA, PLS, AHVA & TN are the ones I found. TN is as far as I know not the way to go. VA is the one I have. I have some HP IPS monitors at my job and they are colorwise better. But there are different types of IPS apparently AH-IPS, E-IPS,...

IPS is In Panel Switching and in laymen terms its just got to do with viewing angle. With the old TN monitors you had to sit dead straight facing the monitor to get "correct colours". With the newer IPS tech you have a MUCH wider angle that you can view your screen from. So if you're monitor is tilted to the left or up or whatever, you can still see the "correct colours" without positioning yourself right in front of and perpendicular to the monitor.

Lots of dells in here and hp zr series. The dell at home has a tonne of controls, really good image quality and lots of other ports and connections - highly impressed and a decent price too.

We're a mix of dells and the HP ZR series here too. I prefer the hp, but that might be because the dell is an old hand me down and the hp I got was brand new.

I've worked on dell u27 for 4 years (new and old gen of it) and they are really good for color, but they lag quite a lot when you look at a video. so for my new one I bought 2 week ago I went for the viewsonic vp2772. More expensive than the dells but it's a great screen.

Some monitors have a contrast ratio of 1000:1 while others have 5000 000:1 what's the deal with that? That's a lot of difference?
