Configuration for a render slave

my current system consists of 12 dual xeon trays of 16 cores. These are equipped with disks ssd 128g and 64 g ram. A dual card gigalan in Teen format. 100down 100up simultaneously.

It is impressive to see how tests are done and render nodes loaded in less than 40 seconds.

If I'm not wrong you need managed switch so that it would assign IP to ur pc/slave etc etc. Otherwise they wont work? Not sure I was not able to set it up in past on non-managed one.

Any bog-standard 6/8-port gigabit switch will be fine such as from netgear, for £20 or so.
