I've heard that 3ds max at 4k is terrible to the point of not being usable at all. It's what's put me off investing so far.

I am going to pick up an adapter, for my 27" Thunderbold, which is 4k; I'll let you know how it scales.

How large is the screen and could you please share a photo of the monitor running max? I'd love to see how the UI looks.

              I just read this:

“We took the opportunity to also put the code in to take advantage of all the new High DPI displays whether that be 4K monitors, Apple Retina displays, or the new Microsoft Surface Pro 3. When you see how nice the text and icons look on these displays, you can see the value right away.

I had the 27" Thunderbolt and it's not 4k it's 2560 by 1440 pixels. however I could never get it to work with a PC.

I have two new 4K 28" monitors and the 3DS Max Display is pretty bad - very small icons and text. I would imagine they will fix the interface fairly soon. In the Area Speak Back forum, they have this issue as "under review"

This leads me to think that we're looking at 2017 before this is done. I doubt very much that they'd make something like this work in a SP, sadly. It must be a fairly major change. All the GUI graphics would need to be replaced with vector ones, if they're not already, and plenty of re-writing of the main interface. If it comes in a SP I would be amazed, and very happy, but who knows.

It really amazes me just how slow AD are at these sorts of things. HiDPI has been around for years and years already, with full support in Windows 8.1 and with other major software developers fully on board with it.

I would definitely go for a 34' in stead of a 4k, whatever size.
This would basically extend your 2560 by 880 px and keep the same height.

This means you've got more breathing space and keep all the UI working...
Definitely the way to go for at least a year or two, knowing the speed of how AD develops their updates.

You mean 24" right? Ok i think two 24" with a good ppi density would be nice.
Sadly 4k getting a standard now and ad know it since 2 or 3 years that this would happend and dont start develope it earlier.
I think 4k would be the maximum for workdisplays because the distance to the monitor stays the same, so 8k wouldn be an advantage for us.

                              Thanx guys
