I cant speak for the Dell's but Ive been running the Z820 for some time now and it is a solid and fast machine to render on.

ok im confused, you said you had purchased the 36 core monster, now you are showing older generation dual 8 core ones (or even that single 10 core jobby) , and asking if they are better? i think the answer is quite easy

Dell or Hp, server grade hardware is generally very good. I have half dells half supermicro, all run stable. The most parts that fail are the hdds and videocards.

I didn't realize the HP was 1 processor, so I ruled it our after I saw that.

The only difference, I think, is the second one has an 8GB video card. The video card itself is $2,000.

I am very happy with my current T5500, which I purchased from EBAY a little over a year ago. I literally have been running it around the clock the entire time. It is a little loud, but that's how I know the render is done

I'll be sure to run some benchmarks. Now, I'll have to work for a living and not sit around waiting for renders to finish.

you will of course still wait for renders. its an unwritten rule that you can never have enough renderpower! youll just be more ambitious and your renders will take just as long as before. my animations have been hitting 1 hr a frame for the last 15 years.
