Thanks for the replies, i am thinking about grabbing one of the dual xeon boards for myself and a friend of mine will grab one of the quad setups, he is thinking of spending up to 11k to get all in one machine, don't know how vray would handle this, if he does go through with it i would have access to it as well for renderingArchitectural and Product Visualization at MITVIZ

I see that one of the listed xeons is Intel® Xeon® Processor E7-8870 its got 10 cores and it costs $4600, if you put 4 of them in a box that's going to be $18400 for 40 cores (80 HT threads). Not considering ram and board it self, you are looking at a $20k system.
With the new e5-2699 v4 with 22 cores and 44 threads you can get more cores for less money imho if you can find those cpus at a similar cost. They are also faster (being newer).Dmitry Vinnik

forgot to say as for myself and pocket a dual board is ok and a used or two,10 core or higher cpu(s), am trying to get it as low as possible and so far i see a few that i like for great prices online, i think even the cheap ones for a few hundred a worth a shot, if it lasts a year i will most grateful until i can afford something that's brand new. on tom's hardware i was setup with a guy who has bought a few from ebay and he advised me of the seller, he has been using the 8 core cpus in a dual board setup for over two years and he says it was worth it so am gonna try my luck until i can afford it or maybe i will write to the Ellen show, hahaha, my wife watches it everyyyyyydayyyyyArchitectural and Product Visualization at MITVIZ
