  • RT output direct to Oculus Rift CV1 or Vive

I wondered if there was any kind of roadmap to allow RT GPU to output directly to the Oculus Rift (CV1) or Vive? Or, better still, is there a way to achieve this now?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

I would like to second this request/question.

In Enscape 3D, which is a realtime plugin for Revit, there is an Oculus connection that works great. I guess it would be a bit of a psychodelic experience to look in an Oculus in wirefram mode, but otherwise it shouldn't be much different from a realtime engine like Enscape, right? Could the spherical camera be implemented directly in RT?

      See here:

This is still R&D and I have no idea if the final result will be usable. If you are interested to try it out, please email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com and we can get you a build when we have something that you can work with.

Think we'll want to give that a go.

          That's very cool!

Do you think you can make this work with the GearVR as well? Streaming the image via WLAN shouldn't be a problem, and updating it every n iterations should create too much traffic either.

I don't know, maybe. We'll need to either find an Android app for this or else write one...

That would be freaking awesome to have that on the GearVR!

                More than +1 on that

Would it be possible to have the production render in progressive output to the Oculus Rift like with the RT video demo? It would be nice to preview your cubemap while it renders in production as-well.

It's possible in principle, but the code is currently only hooked to the V-Ray RT output. I want to see if people will actually find this useful before making larger changes to the code of the CPU renderer.

Is there any way we can try this out in the nightlies already? If so, how do we do to view it in the rifts?

It's not in the nightlies yet - Vassil is still cleaning up the code for merging into the nightly builds. I can get you a build to play with though. In order to view the cube image on the Rift, you just specify "Oculus Rift" in the V-Ray RT stereo output mode. It's working directly through the Oculus SDK; there's no need for a separate viewer.

will this work with the vive as well as it is?

or dose each one need its own support?
