  • anyone here with triple monitor setups?

I'm long time 24" dual monitor setup user and thinking about upgrading to 27" but going one more so triple setup. But I'm not sure if it's not overkill a bit Are there any triple monitor users or someone tested something like this in real life and can share their experience, pros and cons ?

    Hi, i have 2 x 27", also switched from 2 x 24".

I recommend 2 x 27" but you need to check how will 3rd monitor work for you(by using old 22"), main disadvantage is moving head, keyboard, mouse, tablet left right all the time.

I personally decided to go for 3 monitors but soon enough find out how bad idea that is, no matter what configuration i choose(above, left, right, center, landscape, portrait...) it was just too much movement so i stayed on 2 monitors. Also with 2.5k resolution everything is tiny, so beware of that.

Let me explain what that movement is...

Imagine you are using 1 monitor for max, other for material editor and VFB, you decide to fire up photoshop on 3rd monitor, everything is fine, you rotate your head and start working in photoshop for few minutes, then back to max, then longer session in photoshop and before you notice you will move your keyboard, mouse, tablet and whatever you need and center them in front whatever monitor you are working on, and that is something i wasn't able to correct.

Moving ashtray, water, coffee, keyboard, mouse, tablet back and forth all over my table, it was insane for me

29" dual setup is better option for me(now i know) but it isn't that drastic to justify cost and hustle switching from 27" i have now, everything would be bigger on the screen, that translates in better posture, no need to lean over to see those small buttons in programs, i wish it worked though.

    Take care

yeah you are right about the moving head part, this is what I'm afraid of. Some time ago I was thinking about going with 30 inch screens and also here people said that it's too much for our kind of work.
Maybe those 2 27 will be sweet spot. Or maybe better to get one 34 curved ? http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...4&sku=210-AIYZ

This is my setup so I can't image moving stuff around all the time:

Haha, then you know what i am talking about, i need my glasses all the time, 2.5k resolution is way too tiny, although it looks nice i can't see anything

I used 29"(one monitor setup) 2.5k resolution, it does make everything 10% larger and it is just enough to straighten my back and use my eyes more than my head for turning, can't say how 2 of them side by side are.

With 2x 27" you wouldn't make mistake, especially now when dell almost doesn't have bezel, but you probably got used to it already.

I was contemplating http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-38U...rawide-monitor but again it would be almost same setup just without bezel.

        Take care

I just think that it's very convenient to have enough vertical space for managing lots of different windows.
All the modern software packages like Nuke, Realflow, Mari etc. they all come with floating windows and of course you want to have a lot of them open at the same time.

It is even more handy if you use a multi-desktop software like VirtuaWIN or the new multi-desktop feature that comes with Windows 10!

            I'm running 3 x 24"

I think its a lot better than 2. because you have one centered rather, than always looking side to side.

after using this for a while, I think odd number of screens are good.

Running here with 4 monitors @ 1920x1080 (each) on a GeoForce 1080 with no problems.
                Monitors are cheap/generic 48" LCD.

                  Yeah 4 monitors is good
This was my setup way back in 2011. Used software to have the mouse/keyboard switch between desktops. Synergy was the software, https://symless.com/

I use triple 27" monitors, two at 2560px and one at 1920px (the oldest monitor being the 1920, but I actually like having a lower res, large size monitor for some applications).

Regarding head movement, yes, I agree it can be a bit of a problem, but the solution is discipline, having a defined preference for certain softwares being open only on particular screens - that took me some time to develop otherwise, yes, I'd agree that 3 monitors would be worse than 2.

The excessive mouse movements I solved by opting for a smaller keyboard and a more recent mouse (with a higher dpi ?). Yep, by using a smaller keyboard, one which has a separate num pad (that's shaped like a calculator anyway ) works well for me as well as the added bonus of being better ergonomically (i.e. my mouse hand is perpendicular to my elbow).

Tough call, 2 or 3 monitors, I'd say I can live without 3 but do prefer having a monitor directly in front of me, which 2 monitors doesn't do (so imagine I'd end up developing chameleon eyes......).

Yes, WASD programmable mechanical keyboard works well.

                        - With the added benefit of illuminated caps for late sessions.

To avoid head craning, etc,. I also agree that maintaining a routine setup is key to working with multi mons.
                        - The 4th monitor on my setup is for auxiliary operations; in my case dedicated to frame buffer and render tasks/dialog.

                            I am using 3x 24".
Moving head is not a big problem for me; My viewports are in the central monitor, I tend to keep all setting windows(3dsmax) and reference images on the left one ( I am left handed) and use the right monitor for folders, chrome, whatsapp etc.
I am using a wacom tablet so using mouse only for chrome or some rare things.

I was going to suggest that opting for 24" monitors (over the 27" ones I have) would make head movements much less.

But at my age, soon to be 54, having less flexibility in my neck, coupled with a need to now wear glasses when working, screen distance also needs to be taken into consideration (arm's length is meant to be optimum).

With the younger generation however, these things aren't an issue and anything is possible
