We don't know if it is legit yet or if it is whether vray will be in a similar situation.

Hopefully vlado has one to test over the weekend since it comes out friday :P Let us know so we can put our i7's on ebay :P

      If you've got the 6950x, sell it and buy 3 x R 1800X or 4 x R 1700X before 6950x gets massively devalued.
Just joking, of course. Wait for the official reviews!

I'd trust the Cinebench tests over other synthetic or compressions tests to know if the new AMD chips are worth it. So far most of those tests, especially in multi threading for Cinebench, seem to indicate they nearly as or more powerful for rendering as the more expensive Intel offerings.

Obviously Cinebench isn't Vray, but it means more to me than CPU-Z or 3Dmark etc. esp. since chip manufactures have been known in the past to target those bench marks, and high marks in them don't always correspond to render times.

I'd like to see some tests on more machines cooling with air and running at normal clocks etc. though to get a feel for how these processors might fair in day to day use.

Intel just dropped their prices.. which means Ryzen is the real deal probably:

Hurray for competition - even if intel is still the better choice for us, its now cheaper!

I don't see noticable price drop on the major retailers such as Amazon and Newegg. They still sell at $1000-1100 which is round about the regular price for 6900k. Nothing on our local market here in Bulgaria that would imply price drop too. I see that this Microcenter store has it selling at a bit too high price to begin with - $1200 and this makes it appear like they are making a big discount when they drop it to $1000, which again, is round about the regular price. Let me know when they cut it down to $650-800 which is what it should cost at most. I think that Intel will start bringing down their prices of their enthusiast CPU segment in stages so that it doesn't look like they are admitting defeat with their elitist attitude. I expect slow but steady drops throughout the year.

Looking promising. I sure hope AMD will release server cpu 32 cores for 1-1.5k £. That would be great. Big middle to intel and their insane pricing!

Could Chaos Group finally make some testing with the Ryzen CPU ? I would be interested to know what happens with simulations also (Phoenix).

We don't have any of them. AMD promised to send us a system, but I don't know when they will do it. When we get it, I promise we will post some test results right away.

What, still no benches with 1800X and Vray? I hoped you already got one of these.

Anyways, there are already cinebench R15 tests which is a rendering benchmark and R 1800X is right between 6900k and 6950x in performance.

It's actually just 12% behind the 10 core 6950x which (currently) costs more than 3 times more. This gives me hopes. However, I'm not sure how much cinebench R15 is optimized in multi-threaded loads compared to Vray. If Vray is more efficient, we might see the 6950x pull ahead even more than 12% but still.... that's a freakin' $1700-2000 CPU compared to $500 CPU!

Just a few more benchmarks with cinebench while we wait. Even the 1700 ($330) is above a 5960X ($1000+) in multicore cinebench.

                            http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/amd_ryzen_7_1800x_1700x_1700/8.htm

Looks so far like they are great chips for people that do things like...rendering. Fairly compelling especially if you're looking to use GPU rendering more, but still want a good CPU and are being budget conscious.

Look forward to seeing some other render engine tests though like Vray.

A complete test from Anandtech with a page of render charts : http://www.anandtech.com/show/11170/...1700x-and-1700
The rendering tests are here : http://www.anandtech.com/show/11170/...0x-and-1700/18

Also, Ryzen and the new Intel CPU will come with the AVX 512 instructions. I read somewhere that it could double the speed of rendering.
Do someone have more info about this ?

Nope, AVX will not double the speed of rendering. At best, it can give a few percent speedup. At worst, it can actually slow down the rendering.

                                Best regards,
