  • Tests with GP100 and NVLINK

Chris published some tests with GP100 and NVLINK, so far it seems quite impressive:

nvlink means, that we don't have ram problem anymore?
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

It means that the RAM on the GPUs is added together. You can still manage to overflow that

What about cuda with shared memory ? I read pascal is able to use all the system mem.

Is there any word on whether this will be supported by the 10xx series? The article link made it sound like it's not yet...?
              thanks!

                It doesn't look like it.

Very interesting. It is a surprise to me because I didn't think NVLink worked with Intel CPU at all, but maybe the GP100 use PCI to connect to the Intel chipset and NVLink to talk to each other?

NVLink works between GPUs with those bridges https://www.workstationspecialist.co...ro-gp100-3.jpg. It doesn't work between the GPUs and Intel/AMD CPUs.

Ahh, thanks for the info. Would love it though if nVidia allowed Intel to use NVLink tech ifor their chipset instead of old school PCI connections now.

From what I gather, NVidia doesn't mind at all, but Intel will never allow it.

I'm about to starting testing two NVIDIA GP100s with NVLink.

What NVIDIA driver do you recommend I use?

Also, which version of Vray for Maya should I be using in order to take advantage of NVLink?

                          Thank you!
